Orienteering race (Billygoat) 1:56:55 [3] 11.1 km (10:32 / km) +680m 8:04 / km

An ok race. Started out ok. Poor route choice through the woods. 2, had no confidence and although I was right about where I was, I didn't have the confidence to go the right way. It wasn't until someone else went that way when I knew I was right. Frustrating. 3 was ok, knew I was going up the wrong hill and should have "followed" Crum, but Sam and Hillary pulled me up the hill. 4 was good. I saw Ross there and although ediie had gone ahead, I knew I must have been near the front. 5 was ok. 6, ok. 7, I had a brilliant route choice. Left 6 the other way so as to take a trail and avoid the steep rocky decent down. 8 was good until I got close. 9 was weird but ok. 10 ok but slow. On 11 I tried to beat balter, sam, and hillary by going around on the trail, but that didn't work. 12 I followed Sam, Hillary, and balter around to the right even though I knew left was best. I took a long time at the manned control to drink. Also had a banana. 13 was good (Skipped 14, but should have skipped 15). 15 was good until the circle. I think I screwed up this sane control a year and a half ago. 16 sucked. Very slow, but I got to it alright. 17 was easy, but slow. 18, ok. 19, I split from Sam and Hillary and went down the ski slope to the road. A slightly longer route, but I didn't lose too much time, if any. 20 was badish. I was following the glimpses I caught of Sam and Hillary, but also trying to keep track of where I was. I thought I knew, but was wrong. I figured it out, but not proud of that control. 21 was my downfall... Literally. Stupidly, I followed the trail the entire way, even though the woods were just as fast. While flying down the trail, I hit a rock, and ate it. I layer there for a second and realized my calf was hurting. It felt like a pulled muscle (which it probably is). I got up and took a minute to see how I was. Remarcable unscathed, except for some red spots on my shoulder. My calf is very tight in one area and hurts when I flex it which made going uphill very uncomfortable. 22 was slow. 23 I had Balter and Speedy behind me so I was pushing hard on the trail. I felt ok, my calf wasn't hurting, but I wasn't going very fast either. Slightly overshot 23, but recovered quickly then ran hard into the finish.

All in all, I did ok navigationally, but sucked running.
