Saturday Jun 28

Jogging warm up/down 15:00 [1] 1.5 km (10:00 / km)
Warm-up before the race
Orienteering 1:17:36 [5] **** 10.2 km (7:36 / km)
Karjaa rastit
20/32 +9:52 to top

It wasn't as bad race as it looks like. First 2/3 of the race went OK, I only made one bad route choice that cost me about a minute but otherwise it was very concentrated orienteering. In the last third of the race I was very tired however and made 2-3 more minutes of mistakes. So another race going to the mediocre category.

I'm leaving for our summer cottage tomorrow and am looking forward to some long easy speed trainings to "build me up" for harder trainings and competitions in the autumn.
Jogging warm up/down 15:00 [1] 2 km (7:30 / km)
After the race

Friday Jun 27

Running 39:00 [2] 7 km (5:34 / km)
Short jog in the evening. Tired again.

Being sick for two weeks during Jukola really put my spirits down and last two weeks have been very hectic for me as we have been starting our own company. Now I have two weeks of holiday (or almost holiday) so my training spirit and energy will hopefully rise again.

I also have a competition tomorrow, I'm not excpecting very much result-wise but it's a nice way to start a holiday anyway..

Thursday Jun 26

Running 1:50:00 [3] 22 km (5:00 / km)
Running from Tapiola to Nuottaniemi to Tapiola. Felt a little tired.

Running from Konala to Tapiola after c.a 2 hour break

Monday Jun 23

Orienteering 1:00:00 [1] *** 6 km (10:00 / km)
Picking up controls after Iltarastit. I felt quite tired, partly because of a rough day at work I'm sure..

Sunday Jun 22

Running 1:15:00 [2] 14 km (5:21 / km)
Running in Tapiola. I'm still only starting my training after "the flue" so I took it quite easy and short.

My legs and torso were really hurting from the fitness circle.

Saturday Jun 21

Strength 35:00 [3]
"Male version" of Liinu's fitness circle. Felt a little bit tired after yesterday's midsummer party..

Still sick..

My teammate Tapsa did a very good run in Jukola. 2nd fastest time on the 2nd leg. He is a very skilled night orienteerer but also managed to do just the right things before Jukola. About a month from Jukola he was totally out of shape but with some really professional and well planned training he got in to good shape for just the right time. I seem to be the total opposite (sick for Jukola) so I got to give him some respect for being a perfect relay-runner. In some sense he gave me some hope for the future too.. ;)

Saturday Jun 14

Note
(sick)
Jukola-day but I'm sick at home..

I really don't know what went wrong but what started as a sore throat last Friday ended up as more than a week long flue, I'm still too sick to train (or compete). I just have to try my best to rest this weekend and start a new training season next Monday. Worst possible ending to my "spring-season".

Monday Jun 9

Strength 30:00 [1]
Carrying 10 boxes of wooden floor up to 4th floor in the morning. I can tell you non-believers that it counts as strength training.

I was supposed to go running in the evening too but my throat is still a little sore so I skipped it and tried to rest more..

Sunday Jun 8

Orienteering 2:00:00 [1] *** 8 km (15:00 / km)
Picking up controls after Suunto Games. I still felt a little sick so I kept the speed down to minimum.

Saturday Jun 7

Note
(sick)
My sore throat got a little worse and I didn't train today.

Friday Jun 6

Jogging warm up/down 28:00 [1] 5 km (5:36 / km)
Warming up and down
Running intervals 21:00 [4] 5 km (4:12 / km)
"Run-For-Fun" in Pitäjänmäki forest track. 1,25 km laps with some steep hills.

1,25 km:s. 4:28
1 min cooldown
2,5 km:s 9:30
2 min cooldown
1,25 km:s 4:14 ( 3:21 min/km)
--

I Wanted to do some fast-pace running without letting the physical stress grow too big. My legs were still a little tired but otherwise it felt OK.

After the training I had a light feeling of sore throat. I have to take the weekend a little easier because I don't want to get sick now.

Thursday Jun 5

Note
(rest day)
I was still very tired from yesterday's qualification race so I took a rest day.

I was selected to the first team after all and will be running on the second leg. We have two very equal teams that can both achieve very respectable positions in Jukola.

Wednesday Jun 4

Jogging warm up/down 15:00 [1] 2 km (7:30 / km)
Warming up before the race
Orienteering race 1:09:00 [5] 8.1 km (8:31 / km)
Our team's Jukola qualification race. 7/11 +6:29

Bad race again. I was feeling very tired physically and made a lot of big mistakes (+6 minutes). The tiredness may lead from Sunday's sprint competition and allergy but I still should be able to do better, especially orienteering-wise. I simply have to get my orienteering back on track if I want to do anything good in competitions, now 4 of my last 5 competitions have been bad orienteering. I just have to find the calmness and self-confidence I had in my orienteering in the beginning of the season..

I'm best ranked of our Finnish orienteerers at the moment but I'm still pretty sure I'm not running in our first team in Jukola because of this bad qualification race. The differences are so small in our team that qualification races usually have a big meaning when selecting the team. If I'm in the second team I'll probably run three competitions next week, (Middle distance regional champs, Forssa Games and Jukola) and after that start my "PK-season" (basic fitness) of summer. I have resigned from my current job at a financing company and will start working in my own company (with 3 friends) after Jukola. I am naive in a sense that I hope it means I can train better because I should be able to arrange my own time more freely. Time will tell..

Tuesday Jun 3

Running 1:00:00 [2] 11.5 km (5:13 / km)
Esy running from Konala to Pitkäkoski and back

Monday Jun 2

Note
(rest day)
Rest day today

Sunday Jun 1

Jogging warm up/down 20:00 [1] 3 km (6:40 / km)
Warm up / down to qualification
Orienteering race 15:02 [4] 2.5 km (6:01 / km)
Finnish sprint champs qualification

35/46 + 3:12

I just crashed and burned on the 3rd control with a 2 minute mistake. I took a wrong path from 3 possibilities and got caught in a dead end.. Really disappointed and gutted.. I only jogged to the finish line from the 3rd control..
Jogging warm up/down 15:00 [1] 2 km (7:30 / km)
Warm up / down for final.
Orienteering race 11:36 [5] 2.6 km (4:28 / km)
Finnish sprint champs B-final 8/78 +32

No mistakes in the b-final. It was a good run but doesn't take the disappointment away from the qualification. I was also chasing a guy most of the race. (not following because I tried to overtake him all the time)

And I'm not even that disappointed about missing the finals (I might have missed them with a good run too) but just about the way I totally messed up my qualification run. If I would have made a good run in the qualifications but missed the final by 10-20 seconds I could still be happy with my performance even if I would have missed the final..
