Bush Orienteering (Pairs Event) 41:00 [4] 4.3 km (9:32 / km)

Nick Dent was generous enough to organise a pairs event as a leadup to SL#11 at Belanglo. Was such a great training opportunity and I find it really disapointing that more NSW people didn't take advantage of it, and especially when he gave up his time and effort specifically for NSW Juniors fundraising. Was superb format, great courses and terrific weather. Thanks Nick and Hilary !!!!
Nicola and I ran as a pair. The format meant there was a green, Blue Orange and Orange/red course. We split the courses and ran it as a relay.
My first course was the red 4.3km. Ran OK. Disappointed that my new shoes have laces that tend to need taping and hence twice I had to stop to tie them up. The first time meant I lost sight of a small pack that had formed so ended up running solo for the majority until that dreaded termite mound. Felt pretty buggered by the end.

Bush Orienteering (Pairs event) 20:00 [4] 2.8 km (7:09 / km)

Ran the green course. Made more errors on this one than the red I think lol. Tagged Nicola who only had the blue to go, and the race was on.
Matt and Tony Hill took the win, and Nic and I secured second.
Terrific partner, so I shotty Nicola for the next one of these events !!!!

Then walked around to collect a few controls.
Great afternoon's work :)

Note

Bit disappointed in that I deliberately didn't go to the Cycle class because I was playing netball tonight - now netball is called off :(
Bugger.
Plus on a school excursion all day tomorrow with 110 year 8 kids ..... happy days :)

Note

Spent about 2 hours at Tocal checking for possible control sites and route options, start/finish areas etc for event in October. Between now and then I have very few weekends to be able to set courses so thought I'd make a start. Didn't get chased by the bulls, but the plovers had a bit of a go!!
Really like this little map. Quite a few map changes and some still in progress.

Then got back to take Nicola to the physio for another opinion on her feet. Diagnosis - plantar fascitis" :( Was our first suspicion way back when trouble first started and she was icing her arches and rolling them on frozen water bottles. I've been watching Fel's log and really was hoping it wasn't that, but the physio feels confident with lots of foot and calf stretching she could get over it quickly.
I don't think Nicola will mind how long it takes anyway - the physio was very nice. One comment Nicola made "I reckon all guys should do Physio; his hands are so soft!!!!"
Poor Nicola. In her short life she has suffered so many conditions from her knees down: severs, osgood shlatters and now plantar fasciitis. Must come from Russell's side of the family!!!

Netball 30:00 [3]

OK us oldies have put together a team and tonight was our first game. Russell's instructions as I walked out the door "Just don't get injured", another husband "Don't you think you're too old for this!!" Well we may have lost but we had a great time. Had to call on Nicola and two of her friends as fill-ins and one Mum looks like she may have torn her calf muscle :( Bugger. I'll scrounge a few more players before next week and we'll be back :)

Running 40:16 [3]

Ran from home. I've done so little running lately so I feel so pleased to have done this and so pleased to feel as comfortable as I did. That's not to mention all the parts of my body that seem to hurt at the moment when I do anything (I hate getting old).
It certainly helped that running conditions were just perfect - wind had dropped and low cloud had arrived.
