Monday Jun 30

Note
(rest day)
tennis was cancelled coz it got real windy and raining :( i feel so slack in terms of not having trained for like an entire weeek! and i think i eat less healthily when i don't train as much too which makes it even worse.
i've gotten all unmotivated :(
but hopefully having official training (cross country tues and thurs and blue lightning wed) should help me get back into it this week

Note
(rest day)
wellll i slept in for ages, then spent time with grandma and our other visitors, including going for a leisurely walk and holding on to grandmas hand the whole way..
then slept for 2 hours in the afternoon coz i couldn't stay awake..
the couldn't go to sleep for 1 1/2 hours that night!!!! i've decided that after a week of staying up past 11 and sleeping at odd times my body just doesn't want to sleep at normal times..

Saturday Jun 28

Orienteering race (Mt. Ainslie North) 42:49 [3] 4.9 km (8:44 / km)
Selection race. Did okay I guess considering the fact that I was having difficulty opening my eyes. I didn't push it very physically or anything esp as nomi and belinda both couldn't go and I didn't want to die before musical that night, but even so I mentally could not have coped with anything much more navigationally difficult, even though it would def have been on the easier end of a red course. I was pretty impressed by the difficulty of the course considering the area actually, coz usually they only have orange courses there - nice work coach grant.
Sooo I did okay just a couple of little mistakes; there was a tricky long leg where I basically just contoured for a while, dropped a bit by accident, saw a gully that I thought might be the gully I needed to stop at but actually wasn't, but in my tiredness sorta just thought I'd keep going when I couldn't see a fork anywhere and after another couple of hundred metres found the gully, ran up to the fork and knew where I was. oh and at another point i wasn't sure why i couldn't see the control, so i think i just stood there for a minute, before remembering to actually looook for it and seeing it about 5 metres down the hill.
It could definitely have been worse - my navigation was terrible and yet I didn't lose heaps of time! i'll just rock up after partying all night to nationals this year and see what happens.....

Cycling 30:00 [2]
Rode from my friends (coz i'd left my bike there last wk) to my other friends, then home. That was in between musical performances of course. how do you do an eyerolling smiley?
Note
(rest day)
eww selection race is gonna be grosssss!! i'm gonna be wandering around with the most massivest everestt bags under my eyes singing (out of tune of course) "FAME! I wanna live forever.. I wanna learn how to fly" under my breath in a weird drugged out sorta way, and maybe seeing the occasional orange flag...

ooh in other news, i aactualy went to school for a few hours today, and guess what? right when I was arriving everyone was evacuating to the basketball courts coz some retard tried to burn down the boys toilets. sooo we waited outside for almost 2 HOURS while they put the fire out and cleared the smoke. I WAS NOT HAPPY.

Wednesday Jun 25

Note
(rest day)
FAME has officially opened!!!!! First proper performance was last night, and we were sold out aaand had to put in a few extra seats. It was pretty cool. I think we could have done it a bit better though. Maajor dilemma: The clip for the box thing with all the electronicness of my microphone broke during the middle of a dance, so the whole thing slipped down and I had to grab it to stop it smashing on the ground, and then I had to try and dance and sing while I was holding it and then trying to stick it in my belt so I could finish the song without looking like toooo much of a retard :( it was terrible. oh yeah and then I had to wear one of the belt things under my top that usually only guys wear coz girls have it clipped to their bras, and the belt was too big and uncomfortable.

Running intervals 17:00 [4]
Training with the coach of the act cross country team and his squad people. except that i didn't actually know who does training with him regularly and who doesn't.. it was all a bit wierd and i didn't know anyone.
buttt
we did a minute fast, then made a mark, and walked around for a minute, then a minute trying to get back to where we started, then walk for a minute, then another minute fast, then walk, then fast... then walked for 3 mins before doing it all again. Wasn't that hard actually - he said he'd make it shorter for people like me who hadn't done anything like it before really.

Running warm up/down 30:00 [3]
warm up jog, stretching and "run throughs" (haha i feel like such a pro) beforehand, then warm down jog and stretching after.

Running race 46:29 [3] 10 km (4:39 / km) vdot: 43.6
Canada Fun Run 10km (instead of 5km which I usually do :D)
It was gooood! I didn't get a stitch aand my shoulder didn't hurt. Think I could've gone out harder but I wanted to be careful because I haven't done a race this long before. 21st woman in the 10km which was pretty cool, but I kept overtaking people in the last couple of km so I could have done better if I hadn't gone so slowly at the start.
C • yayyy! 5
Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]
Just a few minutes beforehand and a bit longer afterwards. Did high knees and stuff with bonnie. Oh and then we stretched against this metal bar thing that was on the bike path next to the road because it was sorta bent and we were making it straight again. Well we were pretending to make it straight again.. It was funn :P
Note
everyone should come see fame!!!!!!!! (everyone who lives in canberra) it's the musical Lyneham High's putting on that me and bonnie are in. opening night's wed then it goes til sat night. $10 concession $15 adults

Saturday Jun 21

Orienteering race (Red Hill North) 47:13 [3] 5 km (9:27 / km)
Pretty bad actually. Lost a few minutes on the first control and then stuffed around in or near the control circle on a few others when I knew I was around the right spot but couldn't find the control. Don't think I've orienteered at Red Hill before which is very unusual for a Saturday event, and good I guess too coz I couldn't just remember places from before. My tights got caught when I was climbing a fence and then I had to hold myself up on the fencepole to get the free, which was reeeally painful. My hand has definitely suffered more damage than the fence aand my tights.
Generally felt reeally sloooow :(

Friday Jun 20

Running 32:00 [3]
Running in the dark again ... not quite as fun as yesterday but i think that was just a weird fluke that'll never happen again. Same kinda thing though just not at all planned. There isn't really a whole lot you can do in the dark.
Meanwhile, I'm still searching for the perfect hill for intervals...

Running 40:00 [3]
running in the dark and slightly rainy evening after musical rehearsal. Felt really good for some reason, possibly just because I was so happy to be out of our stuffy school hall. Chose an approximate route to go on an old orienteering map of campbell that went up quite a few hills and tried to maintain speed going up them.

Wednesday Jun 18

Running (Blue Lightning) 50:00 [3]
Training was around tracks at remembrance park, with a few hills i found pretty hard. Managed to run all the way to the top of the biggest hill which was good. Ran 10 mins to get there from home, then started pretty quickly and ran for almost 40 mins with a couple of short stops. Then straight off to the X-country meeting!
I have to say the school sport cross country team is not being organised neearly as well as the orienteering team always is by valerie. We got there and there were ppl trying on the uniform and people sitting around looking confused and people asking about forms or handing forms in etc.
Then after a while they said some stuff, and gave you an information sheet thing, which was EXTREMELY vague - like they don't know where we're staying or anything; costs etc. and then they said they didn't have the race uniform to try on, so we might have to go to higgins or something later??? higgins? where the hell is that!? lol anyway, then this woman turned up with the uniforms to try on for some reason, and then noone knew whatt to try on, because there were two types of shorts as well as little lycra running undies, and then there were guy singlets, girl singlets and crop top things. and so nooone knew what people usually wore or anything. it was craaazy. anyway i think we ended up working out what girls usually wear etc. so hopefully it'll be ok. But still...
Thankgod for vazdog!

Note
no time no time. actually i have hardly any time on weekdays for the next two weeks :( will have to try and get myself up in the early morning freezingness if i want to keep training properly. it's sooo hard. coz i put on the alarm but then decide that i should just stay in bed.. and then i either fall back asleepp or lie in bed trying to make myself get up iuntil it gets too late so if i did go i'd miss the bus.

Running long 1:05:00 [4]
Don't actually know how far this was but it felt pretty slow and it some bits especially near the lake it was reeeally windy which made it harder. A bit more hilly than my last long run which was good I guess, though still fairly flat. Ran down to the lake, to commonwealth bridge and across it and then along the bike path that goes to weston park for a while before turning around and running back.
Had to stop for about ten seconds after 45 mins because my stupid shoulder was hurting heaps again. grr it's soo annoying!!

Saturday Jun 14

Orienteering (Blue Lightning) 30:00 [3]
We had a map with lots of little bits of the main map on it, all scrambled up so that you didn't know which way was north. When you got to a control, you had to find another rectangle with the same control on it, which would be your next leg, and then you had to orientate it just by matching everything up on the ground with the map. All good except for one control where I did a 180 but realised pretty soon.
Orienteering race (Bruce Ridge) 46:00 [3] 5.6 km (8:13 / km)
Pretty hilly and a bit thick. Fine navigation, just slow.
Note
Hmm I'm thinking about not going to nationals cross country.. coz it's pretty expensive especially as it's only a few days, and besides, I'll come last or nearly last seeing as ACT is like regionals everywhere else so everyone else will be way better than me. Plus I'll probly miss out on this other camp I was going to go on with school.
Seems like enough reasons to me.. and then I wouldn't feel as bad about wanting to go to this nsw training camp thing.
lol soz you probly didn't want to read that but i have to decide by monday and writing it down helped :P

Friday Jun 13

Running warm up/down (Before hills) 8:00 [3]
Ran for 8 mins then stretched for a bit.
Running hills 25:00 [4]
hillss are harddd.
guess what heather? they were the mt. watertank hill intervals! (10x) :P
but today i actually went up the normal side instead of the other side which is quite a bit shorter. yay!
it was freeezing when i started and freeezing when i stopped. my hands were totally numb but I didn't realise until i stopped!
C • Intervals 4

Thursday Jun 12

Running intervals 22:00 [3]
Ran down to oval and did some laps doing the long sides hard and the short sides recovery. Nothing formal or anything but it was dark so I figured I'd just do something on the oval rather than normal laps. Had to slow down on some of the fast bits so as not to trip over what i'm pretty sure were the remains of fireworks from the wkend. lol
Note
NSW training camp - is anyone actually going to go / thinking of going? I'm not sure if I am but want to know if other ppl are so we can see about transport to and from orange.

Wednesday Jun 11

Running 45:00 [3]
dreadful!
absolutely horrible.
firstly i had to go by myself coz I was going to go to training but mum forgot to get home from work in time to take me and by the time she called to tell me she'd forgotten it was too late to ride or organise a lift.
Sooo i had ran to the bottom of mt ainslie (10 mins) then stretched a bit, then tried to run up as much of mt ainslie as i could, which wasn't all that much and i swear it was twice as big as usual somehow. Then i fiiinally got to the top, (took 12:43 mins) and ran down to the bottom and home (21mins) as i was running i got a stitch - just as i did last time i ran down mt. ainslie! wierd - anyway and then i got to the bottom and kept going until my shoulder muscle that sometimes goes all owwy went all owwy, and the stitch was still there, so i stopped and walked for a little bit to try and stretch it out.
So by the time I got home I had decided that I never want to have such a horrible run again.

Note
(rest day)
omg guess what? i got selected in the act cross country team! which is wierd coz i came 7th... but yeah. pretty scary. everyone at nationals'll be really professional and scary, and i'll completely lose. plus i don't really know anyone else going. except belinda. and ian. assuming they both go.
as u can probly tell i'm sorta freaking out :P
C • Nationals 6

Monday Jun 9

Running long 58:37 [5] 11.5 km (5:06 / km)
argh i'm so tired!
I've never run that far before... it was tiring! and boring too.
Ran down to the lake, which I think is about 1.5km from my house the way I went, then did two laps of the bridge loop which is 5km, before crashing on the grass. Oops, I mean, before cooling down and stretching for ages. Nah I was too tired I just ran about a hundred metres slowly and stretched for about 5 mins before walking (slowly) home again. I'll pay for that crappy warm down with sore muscles tomorrow I guess.

By the way, someone tell me, do you think the intensity rating should be about how fast you were running or the time you were running for or what? coz that was a whole lot of effort for me even though I wasn't running that fast.

Sunday Jun 8

Orienteering race (QBlll - snows hill) 49:18 [4] 5.5 km (8:58 / km) +140m 7:57 / km
yayayayay! no mistakes! (well close enough) First good run for a while so I'm really glad, especially as it was a hard map that lots of people seemed to be making mistakes on. Spur gully with lots of termite mounds - which were really very helpful! All long legs so I just went really carefully and I think I crosschecked and thumbed my map really well. At one point I was a little bit unsure of exactly where I was but I thought I was in the right spot and worked it out after running a bit further so that was all good. Didn't run all that fast as I needed to be really careful, and I was aiming for a steady, clean run. So yeah, I achieved my goal!
C • ORIENTEERING IS BECOMING TOTALLY HIP 3
Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]
Warmed up running on the way to the start, but then it turned out it was quite a bit earlier than I thought so I waited for a bit (stretching) before doing some more. Tried to be really focussed, which seemed to work I guess...
Then a short warm down afterwards.

Saturday Jun 7

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]
Veeery short warm up before - didn't realise it was so late so got to the start and realised I couldn't keep warming up.
Cool down afterwards. I think this was really just a chance for me to try and get in the right frame of mind mentally as much as anything else, coz I was pretty disappointed about my run.
C • Warm up 5
Orienteering race (QBlll) 25:00 [5] 3.1 km (8:04 / km)
Most of it was ok but I made one really really annoying mistake at number 4 :( as well as a few other smallish things. I decided to go to the track and then follow it until another track joined it when I would take a bearing back into the bush. Soo I figure I couldn't get lost on the track, just run as fast as possible until the intersection then slow down. Except that I completely missed the intersection, I guess the track was fading away a bit, and went about twice as far as I should have, thought I saw the track, went into the bush, saw a dam coming up, saw a track on my left and realised I had gone wayyy too far! so then I ran straight back along the track and soon found it. GRR
I was really unhappy about making such a stupid mistake mainly because I've being doing this kind of thing at every single major event recently, and no matter what I do I can't seem to avoid it. I have no idea what to do about it other than keep on trying...

Friday Jun 6

Running 35:00 [3]
Er.. well... just a normal run I guess. Didn't want to do anything too difficult before this weekends events.
Butttt more excitingly I have a swollen up finger!!! Coz in netball in PE today this guy wacked the ball into it when I was trying to throw it. And now it's really fat and sore. Luckily you don't run with your fingers!

Thursday Jun 5

Note
(rest day)
once again not home til 9pm ish tonight. stupid college information nights every night for a week! well i haven't gone to all of them so not every night but still. they should have an assessment free week this week coz of all the info nights taking up all our time.
i'm getting a cold.
and grr. no training =(

Wednesday Jun 4

Event: TRAAIINNNNNIIIIIIINNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGG

Running 10:00 [3] 1.2 km (8:20 / km)
Sort of a cool-down thing after O-intervals mainly just coz nomi and i wanted to keep running a little bit more.
Orienteering intervals (Radford) 35:00 [3] *** 3.15 km (11:07 / km)
4 intervals - 650m, 750m, 850m, 900m, plus waiting in between each.
well i wouldn't really say this was advanced O, especially the bits in the bush which were really easy, but sprinting (well not exactly but whatever) through the buildings while reading was pretty hard - well at least it would have been if there hadn't been lots of people around going to the same control ...
it was hard to make myself stay in contact the whole time because of this so I made sure I tried to draw in my route and thought about how I would have done it if I'd been going more slowly and carefully.

Tuesday Jun 3

Note
(rest day)
well how was i meant to train when I had to do piano practice before I left for school and then left at 8:00am and didn't get home 'til 9:00pm??? it would have been pretty ridiculous. not to mention dangerous running around in the dark by myself. (well it's a good excuse... :P)
C • TRAIN 3

Monday Jun 2

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]
Running race (ACT X-country) 16:41 [5] 4 km (4:10 / km) vdot: 45.7
Went way better than I expected! Pushed much harder than at northside and I assume my time was quite a bit better too but I don't actually know what it was - just guessed. I kept overtaking people and then right near the end I was quite a few metres behind the girl in front of me and I decided to try and beat her, and then we practically tied it was so close but they gave 6th to her, so I came 7th. I'm pretty sure that means I won't get to go to nationals but someone might drop out I guess...
I'm really happy with my run - it shows that I could actually be an okay runner if I always trained! Then again I'm really really ANNOYED to the extreme coz if I'd realised I would get to go to nationals if I beat that girl I'm sure I would have started sprinting sooner and could have - butttt a friend had told me that we (the under 16's) were up against not only the 17's, who were running with us, but the 18's too, who weren't running with us, so I figured I had no chance of making it. grrr...

Running 12:00 [2]
Well I wasn't going to do anything today, coz of the act cross country tomorrow, but after reading joshwa's comments about running the day before a race and how everyone seemed to think you should ... i decided to do a really short run and then stretch :)
