fun run in rivelin with laura. we had a few stops for photo's of '"hadrian's wall" (and my feet) for our project. so muddy. we both felt quite tired so took it easy.

I knew on friday that I should not race but somehow I still ended up starting.
Retired due to complete lack of any energy, definately not my normal self. Really disappointing to feel so awful but hopefully it shall soon be sorted.

Lucy and I took 1 hour to walk back from the furthest point through freezing bog

thick snow - such a surprise to open the curtains today! rivelin loop with lucy. slow as i kept sliding about. very pretty, i am glad that the snow has returned

then i jogged down to ponderosa park to do:
4 x 5 min intervals with 1 min walk/stand recovery (3 miles?)
5 x 30 second hills with 30 second walk back recovery

1.5 mile warm down

broomhill, crosspool, manchester road (snowy), along the bottom of rivelin, back through walkley...misty and snowy and grey and muddy, a nice run

Note

Testing day 'athlete performance' at salford uni with FRA coaches
Lots of tests basically to analyse and compare when i go again

jumping, flexibility, isokinetic measurements (that hurt a lot). sprints, agility, body fat (big metal pliers), weight 46.1, height 165.5 (I've grown half a cm) etc.
calculated BMI = 16.8 which according to internet is rather low

I was the only runner there who does not have a coach so they're giving me lots of exercises and advice on training and what ever i want to know which is nice

been ill / injured so they said give it a go and dont worry about stopping so i did
got 12.9 which apparently = VO2 max 57 (emma = 13, victoria = 13.5)
so not bad but hope i could have done better if fit and well
i seemed to find the turning around more exhausting than the running = more strength exercises required

home > sheffield station...train...manchester station > salford university
then in reverse for the way home. tired running back from the station to home

my first 'session' of the year - i'd forgot about out of breath and hurt legs, running on my own doesn't seem to do that

down to malin bridge. ran along rivelin to where manchester road meets rivelin valley road. up lodge lane (all the way - it seemed long) it turned into blackbrook road. along a bit then turn right along harrison lane which joined gorse lane. Left onto mayfield road, joining the parks near quiet lane. past forge dam. back through parks. legs ached a bit up brocco bank.

glutes quite tight at start. a bit soon after lunch so started slowish with a stich

i chose running over circuits due to lack of time. sustained efforts. felt good and quite fast apart from the glutes quite hurt.

got majorly confused going to 1 as the course went off the map!? so I did not know where I was...so then I mucked up 2 too but after that it was generally ok

Langdale with Neil, Lucy, Nic and Bobs.
we went up bisto hill, then crinkle crag, then along a ridge (ups and downs and snowy) then down.
surprisingly i was ok up the hills, which meant quite a bit of waiting but it didnt matter as i could take pics (i not quite so quick down them...as usual)
such beautiful views. was the best i've ever seen the lake district i think.

straight after portfolio review. definately needed to run so it is lucky I can now.
I felt slow, unfit and tired to begin. but I was running better by the way back.

i had planned on swimming after. but i gave it a miss because my arms hurt from carrying the portfolio, and the pool was full of screaming kids.

a slow plod in the snow (hooray its come back!) slow because:
A) it was icy and i was in road shoes
B) it was late
C) i dont want to overdo the running this week

planned to end the run at spinning after. however goodwin shut early because of the snow >:( . . . . . (that's meant to be my cross face)

through the parks, turned right up quiet lane > up crimicar lane > along redmires road > sandygate road > lydgate lane > home

did a couple of 5 min (slight) efforts to see how i felt. unfortunately the start of the second one coincided with the bottom of crimicar lane.
but i felt i was going along quite ok, which is good.

tom lane run with lucy. we went so slow because the aim was just for me to run without stopping for 50 mins. felt very easy which is a good sign :)
of course i am now glad i bothered to keep going to the gym the last few weeks
