Other (Physical Therapy) 8:00 [3]

Just today at PT they realized that my body moves "smart" because when the weak muscles get tired I compensate by using the stronger muscles, but in the end it results in injuries such as mine. So my therapist gave me some more exercises ad stretched to do at home to strengthen and stretch my calfs.

Swimming 1:30:00 [4]

Our coach is definitely starting to push the team harder, practice used to be easy all the time, now she has us swimming harder and longer distances in the same amount of time; today we swam 2700 yards

Other 30:00 [3]

I went to my friends graduation party and at the end we played ultimate frisbee for a while.

Swimming 40:00 [3]

I was in the water a lot today to set up camp. We had to put the docks in the water, put out the corner buoys, and put out the regular buoys that surround the area.

Swimming 20:00 [3]

Went to a lake and decided to swim out to this buoy out in the lake and back.

Stair Master

Today at PT we did a lot of the same exercises plus another where you stood on half a exercise ball and did knee bends while passing a ball back and fourth. My therapist says it looks like its getting better because my knee is being pulled it the right direction when I flex my quads, but it still hurts just as much.

At PT today we did the normal, a lot of stretching and even more exercises. I noticed that the quads in the front of my leg are getting a lot stronger because I was able to balance on a flat bottomed exercise ball with a lot less effort, and my knee pain is starting to go away; right now the pain in my knee goes off and on.

Swimming 1:00:00 [4] 1.65 km (36:22 / km)

After doing nothing for a month I am so out of shape, especially my upper body strength. I found our workout unusually hard, and the people im usually ahead of in the pool were ahead of me.

Note

Today I went to physical therapy today and we did a bunch of exercises and stretched. At the end the physical therapist said that it looks like my knee is getting better, even though it doesn't feel like it has gotten much better.

Orienteering 2:31:00 [3] 6.7 km (22:32 / km)

The slowness of my time was a result from walking the whole course. I wish I could have ran it because I felt like I was going really slow, which I was. I also had trouble with one of the controls, it was supposed to be in a broad reentrant lined with boulders at the top. I found the reentrant and the boulders but only some pink streamers where I believe the control should have been. I even took several approaches form different features to where the control should have been. With all of my wandering around I eventually found it a little to the south west of where I think it should have been.

Note

Physical therapy today, all we did today were a bunch of different exercises to strengthen my quads, then he stretched me. When I did the exercises I had to make sure my knee remained lined up with my toes so that it would strengthen the quadricep on top of my leg instead of the side.

Other (Physical Therapy) 8:00 [3]

I used a machine, it was kinda like a combination between a stair master and a stationary bike. You sat down and the peddles were in front of you instead of below, and they moved like the stair master.

Note

I saw my physical therapist yesterday and he said that I have Runner's Knee, or Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome. It was caused by the out side muscles of my quadriceps being too strong and the middle quadriceps being not as strong, so my knee cap was pulled the wrong way when I used those muscles and caused irritation. So he gave be various exercises and stretches to do to help it, and I will be going back to physical therapy twice a week for the next few weeks.

Running warm up/down 7:00 [3]
shoes: New Balanced 767

Running race 4:41 [5] 1.0 mi (4:41 / mi)
shoes: Bowerman Series

I didn't do as well as I wanted to do, I didn't care so much about my place, I just wanted to get a faster time. I ended up in 10th place and got the same time I got at regionals a week and a half ago. I wanted to get into the 30's but I guess I will have to wait until next year since the season is over.

I will be doing what my doctor said and take 2 to 4 weeks off, to heal my knee, before I start my summer running. And then I will begin my 400 to 500 miles im supposed to run over the summer.
