Note
(rest day)

spent all day on train to and from london, and in conference centre, apart from a short walk through St James' Park (though even I wouldn't log that!). Useful to have a rest day as am pretty stiff from yesterday.

running warm up/down 6:00 [1] 0.9 km (6:40 / km)

warm up to the start of the midlands champs national event at beaudesert old park. only just made in time as ruth decided when i was nearly there that "the destination is not on a digitised road" ie "i am going to take you somewhere else!

orienteering race 2:13:20 [5] 9.5 km (14:02 / km) +405m 11:34 / km

M40L course. A nice area and a good long tough run; really got my money's worth. Took almost double the time of the leader. Really messed up 7 and 18; apart from that navigated pretty well, and felt strong too. 2+ hours of meditation - can't beat it.

Fell over in the mud within seconds of the start, but fortunately kept the important bit of the map clean.
1 was fine;
didn;t take the best route to 2 and only found it cos I saw the blue controllers tape!
3 was fine.
not sure 4 was in the right place, or the map was a bit funny.
5 i went too far and came back to it.
6 fine.
7 disaster - couldn't work out where i was on the path went off it at the wrong place and came back to it, up and down it a couple more times til i worked out where i was, then it was easy.
8 went past it and came back;
9 - 12 fine;
13 was too high but was pleased to work out where i was and didn;t lose too much time;
14 - 17 fine;
18 rubbish, don;t ask;
19 to 22 fine, although 21 was a bit lucky - wasn't quite sure where i was.

second half of the course was deserted apart from a few walkers - guess everyone else had finished, so had to work it all out for myself! there were a few elephant tracks to help though.

had the luxury of a shower after finishing and got my shoes de-mudiffied too!

actual distance ran: 12.36k

running 32:00 [3] 5.2 km (6:09 / km)

Not running yesterday was big mistake; made up for it today by heading out to Burbage for the last hour of daylight. Hundreds of others had had the same idea and i couldn't even get in the car park. Lovely sunset, took lots of pix (on my phone as the battery went in the camera after one shot), and mapped it on map my run as the battery went in the garmin after a few metres. Did a clockwise loop of burbage sticking to the more runable paths, didn;t want to overdo it before tomorrow.

Thursday Dec 10, 2009 #

running 21:00 [3] 4.0 km (5:15 / km)

In work, same route as Tuesday, but a minute quicker. Don't enjoy running pre-breakfast though; will revert back to short route.

walk 20:00 [1] 1.5 mi (13:20 / mi)

home from work, aka warm up for harriers

running 44:34 [3] 6.97 km (6:24 / km)

Harriers. Slow and short. Would like to say too slow and too short, but still not feeling up for it and was about right. could've gone a lot faster on the way back ie when i was properly warmed up and it was downhill, but stuck with the group. am wondering if i got back into running too soon after my cold and should have rested more; now need to decide how much more to do before sunday when I have a long and hilly course to run at cannock. the run tonight was a route around walkley (and past my student house on Fern Road) and Hillsborough and involved passing about 3000 takeaways, which was torture!

Wednesday Dec 9, 2009 #

running 32:40 [3] 5.65 km (5:47 / km)

from home out to fulwood, but including some hilly loops off the main road to make it less boring and more difficult. felt hard going today, which is reflected in the mins/k. now enjoying the PBR!

running warm up/down 5:38 [1] 1.05 km (5:22 / km)

Jog down to Weston Park for Club night/nightO. Really didn;t feel like going, but can't refuse O on your doorstep and knew I'd be OK when I got there.

orienteering race 25:00 [3] 2.1 km (11:54 / km)

Only my second ever night O :o Managed to press stop rather than start on my watch at the start so have no idea of the time til the results go up. It really helped knowing the area so I didn;t have to think too hard; still didn;t get the best route to 3 though and possibly to 4 as well!, and possibly 7 now I come to think about it, ah well.

Tuesday Dec 8, 2009 #

running 22:00 [2] 4.0 km (5:30 / km)

in work, longer route through endcliffe park.
Now the cold is more or less gone, need to get back to some long runs

running 23:28 [4] 3.71 km (6:20 / km) +110m 5:31 / km

longer route home from work, involving cemetary road (ie unnecesssary hill), hunters bar, brocco bank and endcliffe village (necessary hill).
