Note

MTBO is now once again ahead in my log colours for the year...
7 AM

Road bike (commute) 1:00:00 [2] 29.28 km (29.3 kph)
shoes: Giant TCR

Legs were a bit sore this morning, can't think why.
5 PM

Road bike (commute) 1:15:00 intensity: (1:05:00 @2) + (10:00 @3) 32.19 km (25.8 kph)
shoes: Giant TCR

I think my legs were sore today because I was wearing the uncomfortably tight Aussie team knicks. No other explanation for it. Despite this, I sat behind then passed a guy along the waterfront then decided I should go hard to Canning Bridge because I really needed it.

Gave a high 5 to a moving billboard at the east end of Collins Rd because he was looking bored. Rode home from there via Tall Doe's place to look at map corrections.

Right shoulder is pretty sore at the moment too along with the right knee - how unusual - surprising since I twinged the left one on Sunday but it came good the next day.

Part 2 - managed to pretty much clear most of the rest of the map. I was going to skip some of the big logging trails in the middle but then found some of them have had harvesting in recent weeks and are now strewn with log bits. I'm sure this'll change in the coming months and that there'll be more clear felled areas to contend with later too.

Managed one awesome over-the-handlebars effort when I attempted to ride around an obstruction but when my front wheel went off the track, it his something pretty solid and stopped dead.

Extended the map north to the next arm too. At the moment, the water level is about a contour higher than when I mapped it for last year's event, meaning the new tracks I marked in the south last time are now under water. Ran out of water about 1.5hrs from the end but really wanted to finish off the new bit so had to ride down, up, down and then up an almighty hill to trace the last few tracks.

The Oregon saved the day again today. It may be rubbish for tracing tracks but it gives a fair indication of where the heck I am when out there on unmapped tracks and considering I followed this one track east for a couple of kilometres without any branches, I used it to get me back to a known location.

Also heaps and heaps of bogan campers out there over the weekend. This was a bit of a pain at times when attempting to trace tracks down to the water since people tended to set up camp right in the middle of the track. The water's edge is once again unmapped as being too hard.

I reckon I also mapped 150+ obstructions out there over the weekend, almost entirely on the bush tracks.

Orienteering (MTB) (mapping) 6:27:31 [2] 59.01 km (9.1 kph) +1041m

Part 1 of the weekend's mapping. Covered the south side of the east side of Wellington Dam. Found a new track that I'd previously seen part of on the western side and had thought it was the new Munda Biddi but turns out it's the Wellington spur trail or some rubbish. The track marking symbol is somewhere between the Bibbulmun and Munda symbols but the colour is different so it threw me. Either way, there's a nice section of single track through the pines on the map now :-) Some newly clear felled areas to mark too; it'll be interesting (and somewhat annoying) to see how much more has been logged by the time the event comes around.

Got hot at 11am and was over it all by 2:30 so went back to the car for a swim and paddle. Ran out of water just as I got back to the car so timed it well.
3 PM

Paddling 40:32 [4] 6.41 km (6:19 / km)
shoes: Fenn XT

Had to do the now traditional Australia Day paddle albeit in a different location so headed out on Wellington Dam for a short stint. This is my comeback before the Ascot race.

Left Tash behind but then caught her after doing a lap of the island, then left her behind again and went for another swim after finishing.
5 PM

Orienteering (MTB) (mapping) 27:07 [3] 4.88 km (10.8 kph) +111m
shoes: Giant Anthem 26"

Short ride around the HH paddock SW of the dam, since that's where we'll be starting. The owners don't mind at all if we ride through the paddock so will have to map it properly later on. I'm pretty confident it's rideable, other than the fact it is 100m of climb from the bottom of the paddock to the top, which will make all the MTBOers happy when I stick a control at the top of the hill...

Road bike hills (Hills ride 2) 1:37:17 [3] 41.74 km (25.7 kph) +714m
shoes: Giant TCR

Recovery ride.

Obviously didn't go hard enough on Turner Rd but the legs were a bit smashed and hips were a bit sore too, whether that be from Thursday's run, all the riding this week or Tash slapping me on the bum I don't know.

Went for a ride through RoleyPoley after that - good training area with lots of short, sharp hills.
4 PM

Orienteering (urban) race (Trigg) 35:46 [4] ** 8.06 km (4:26 / km) +108m 4:10 / km
spiked:20/20c shoes: Salomon XT Wings asphalt/yello

May have had the fastest time but was far from the optimal route: 500m further than Craig; 300m further than Sten; 10m further than Brian H! Navigated properly today though after last week's debacle but should have looked at finishing options earlier than I did to pick a better route at the start.

Road bike (commute) 56:46 intensity: (36:46 @2) + (20:00 @3) 29.25 km (30.9 kph)
shoes: Giant TCR

Ideal conditions today to make it a week of daily consecutive faster times to work but the legs needed a break so I just kept it easy. Five days riding from home too - TT must have barred me from her house!

I think I upset a woman driver whilst turning right from Bagot onto one-way Denis St - the woman (who was in front of me) took just a half second too long to turn right with an oncoming car so I jumped across in front but then she turned anyway so I eased back and didn't quite cut her off but she glared angrily. At the bottom of the hill I caught up with her, on her left this time so she decided to have a word with me out the window and I don't think she was after my phone number. I was attempting a track stand at the time so managed to manouevre myself into a position facing away from her, then took off after the cars went through and she didn't follow fast enough to give me the dressing down that I probably didn't deserve.
5 PM

Road bike (commute) 1:05:00 [2] 29.22 km (27.0 kph)
shoes: Giant TCR

Saw my cat friend at the bottom of Mount St again today. I thought it was dead but I know it better than that. It was probably just waiting for someone to pat it.

After the slog home into the bloody easterly I figured I'd recover with some life restoring chocolate milk but unfortunately I was all out. I can only assume either that Tash drank it all or that I didn't have any to begin with. I did have Sustagen in the house though, which is almost as good, but didn't have it within the suggested 15 minutes of finishing my ride. It was more like an hour and 15 minutes. Plus 15 minutes. I should probably have had six times as much to make up for the delay.

I did also watch some of the cricket and that was akin to recovering. Then I watered the plants so that they didn't die. Well, any more than they already have.

Road bike (commute) 55:32 [3] 29.42 km (31.8 kph)
shoes: Giant TCR

I seem to be getting a bit more motivated as the week goes on, although not motivated enough for a 4:30am wake up to join the group after getting home at close to 8pm last night (IOCC have switched to Thursday evenings anyway so may be back to Red Rock).

Had a shower after getting to work but still managed to drench the work shirt with not enough time to cool down.

Yellow is now well and truly entrenched at the top of the table for 2014 activities.
12 PM

Core stability (core strength) 29:30 [2]

Time to add some colours to the chart, or not colours as is the case here. Hopefully my running speed will improve out of sight after this one session.

Run to Sten group.

Road bike (commute) 56:17 [3] 29.42 km (31.4 kph)
shoes: Giant TCR

Another hot one so I went faster in order to cool down. It didn't work.

Somehow managed to knock the sensor off the fork when I got to work again. I don't see the need for a removable sensor when you'd need to cut the cable ties to steal the rest of it anyway.
1 PM

Note

I got motivated enough to do a core strength session at lunchtime today, then discovered I had no change of shirt other than the one I rode to work in and I wasn't about to put that one back on if I could help it.
6 PM

Road bike (commute) 1:04:00 [2] 29.54 km (27.7 kph)
shoes: Giant TCR

I got what I wanted today. Well actually it was what I wanted on Monday so the sea breeze didn't help all that much heading south along the freeway. Oh well, maybe next time.
