Orienteering race (score-o) 1:29:49 [4] *** 7.7 km (11:40 / km)
spiked:20/21c slept:8.0 weight:158lbs shoes: black&orange integrators

WCOC 90 minute score-o at Huntington SP. Navigation generally good, but speed lacking. With 23 controls, remarkably I ran exactly the same route as Phil, although I skipped one control he got near the end as time was running low. He was much, much faster - running out of sight on some of the early legs, only to show up again at the control, at least for a while. The only noteworthy error I had was drifting well left and going down the wrong reentrant on the way to #20. Probably cost 2 minutes, but as the control was at a stream/trail junction, I had no trouble finding it - just ran a lot of extra distance. Also climbed over a rocky knoll on the way to #4, when going around it would have saved 20-30 seconds.

Orienteering (course setting) 1:35:00 [1] 4.0 km (23:45 / km)
shoes: black&orange integrators

Course setting at Sessions Woods, on the way back from score-o at Huntington. Checked the southern and eastern parts of the advanced courses. Left to do - vet the W&Y (set by Kate Moran), set sprint (if I'm going to have one).

Tuesday Nov 1, 2005 #

Running 44:49 [2] 3.5 mi (12:48 / mi)

Down Doyle Rd to Wright Trail to Lans's fire road to Mulcundry Rd and back on Wright Rd, with Hazel, including about a minute waiting for her to drink. Lots of climb, pretty hard - feeling sore, stiff and slow.

Running 46:44 [2] 4.4 mi (10:37 / mi)

Down Bunker Hill, up Hanson. Sore, slow and stiff, after a pretty vigorous day of yard work, including spreading hay, pulling stumps, mowing, turning last year's garden compost pile and setting up a new one for this year's leaves and garden clean-up.

Sunday Oct 30, 2005 #

Running 39:00 [2] 4.0 mi (9:45 / mi)

Up Cider Mill Rd and back Ridge Rd in Middlebury, VT, with Rhonda. Beautiful day, nice route. Up for parents weekend.
