Running race 51:07 [4] 10.0 km (5:07 / km)

Forest Park winter series 10K. Talked Rhonda into going along. Started out with George and Lyn in sight, but around 1.5 to 2 miles I started to tie up and fall back. After a bit I got to a gap in the crowd, where there was no one close in front at all. I wanted to look back for Rhonda, but I don't turn my head well these days, and didn't want to stop to turn around. Finally saw her when I turned a corner with about a mile or so to go. She was about 50 yards back, smiling and waving. Thought about waiting for her, but realized she was going faster than I at that point, so I wouldn't be able to keep up if I waited. Kept plugging, finishing a step or two in front of her. The others went for a post-race jog, but Rhonda and I were pretty beat, and opted for a quick car ride home!

Running 47:42 [3] 5.4 mi (8:50 / mi)
weight:167.5lbs

Out around Providence at night 9pm start. Long day, and hard to get out the door, but ran pretty well. Down Richmond to the bridge, Wickenden to Gano, up a few blocks then over to Hope, to Doyle, back by the Marriott, the Capitol, Providence Place and back. Nice night. Not too cold, but plenty windy.

Orienteering race 53:54 [4] *** 5.7 km (9:27 / km)
spiked:7/9c

Green course at Anza Borrego meet. Disastrous first two controls, going too fast and losing contact on the first, then careless with the bearing and overrunning the second by a fair amount. Settled down and the rest of the run was clean as a whistle.

Orienteering race 1:28:34 [3]

Maze-o at Anza Borrego. Crazy terrain. I was tired, but it was too much fun to stop. Went to 193 first, and couldn't find it for a while. Milled around with a group until Randy showed up and found it, eventually. From there straggling along with Randy and Ron Bortz. After a while, determined that we were not headed to the same place! Randy was going to 195, I was headed for 192 and Ron for 194. These were pretty fanned out controls, so somebody was obviously not going the right way. Anyway, we eventually stumbled on a control. To my surprise it was #197. Peter was there, and apparently off toward 191 so I tucked in behind until he got out of sight - doesn't take long in the maze. Found 191 about the same time j-man came in from another direction. After that did 192, 195, 194, 196 and 198 without incident and pretty cleanly. I was doing a pretty good job of using the drainages to get around. The dismount was a little hairy. I chose wrong at a place where I should have gone right to get left, and ended up climbing up and down some hairy stuff to get to the finish by brute force.
