Art Sweeton loop, with Hazel. Hazel's habit on these runs is that just before we hit the bridge on the way back she picks up a stick to take home. Today, she got a pretty big one - at least 30" long and rather stout. When we got to the gate, she went around to the right, as is our habit. The opening between the gatepost and the nearby tree is smaller than her stick, though, and she clunked right into it. So, she stopped and surveyed the situation, and then crashed into it again. A moment to think it over, and then clunk, again. I encouraged her to go around the outside of the tree, but she wouldn't have any of it. It's not where she's used to going. Finally, she dropped the stick and re-gripped it at something of an angle, and was able to go through the gate. Then she made this strange growling noise the rest of the way home, because she didn't have a very well centered grip on this rather heavy stick.
