| Long-O at Pinnacle and Thacher Parks. Lots of trail legs and route choice, but hard for an old man to run it.Very clean run, maybe a 20-30 second bobble on #7 and 10 on #11, otherwise right on. Just slow. My route from 6 to 7 was pretty circuitous, probably cost a few minutes for the extra distance. Second straight day I got nailed on the way to the go control. This time I got flipped by a low cable strung between trees for a ropes course. Sent me flying, and cramped both my calves for good measure. |

| A good hour and a half digging out stumps and rocks from the side field with the tractor. |

| US Short course championships, Green X course. Out of breath after two controls, but then settled down mostly. Caught a hemlock branch in the forehead and got a pretty good scrape. A tightly bunched pack - a few seconds behind Phil and half a minute in front of George - always my closest competitors. |

| Past Ski Sundown to Farmington River Tpke, up Breezy Hill to Barbourtown. With Zack, who streams by effortlessly on the uphills. Route. |

| Golf at Rockledge with Tom Noonan and the boys. Not as satisfying an outing as two weeks ago, but within the bounds of tolerable. Started well, but faded to a 48, with some inferior putting. |

| Same route as yesterday. Surprisingly difficult. I need to pump up my shocks. Way too spongy after a winter of lying around in the basement. |

| Big day around here. We had 150 first graders on field trip for earth day. One little boy is very disabled, and I took him down to the beaver pond in the Polaris, to his immense delight. We also had a sidetrip to the bear den (now empty). One kid found some bear poop, which was quite a popular find, especially with the boys. Quite a fine day.
As the kids and parents all left, there was one truck left, which I quickly discerned belonged to my forester. Back out to find him, marking trees for a sale later this year. We will be doing clear cut patches of an acre or so - probably four or five of them. The trees have grown nicely since being released in the partial cut we did 8 years ago, and this will allow re-growth of a new forest. As part of the deal, I will use some of the cordwood to build bear condos. |
