Running 1:14:12 [3] 8.65 mi (8:35 / mi)
weight:165.5lbs

Pleasant Valley-Riverton route with Rhonda and Kathleen at around 5:40 am. Much less traffic than when we have done it 1/2 hour later. Legs felt better - enough that I was breathing hard. Usually the legs feel so dead that it's hard to run fast enough to get out of breath. Cool and muggy. Had a handkerchief which was very handy for wiping sweat and probably worth several minutes.

Note

laurel wrangling with the boys. Working on clearing a path along a section of boundary. First leg was about 640 feet to a pin in a wetlands through some pretty intense laurel. Made a pretty nice path, but had to thrash around a bit for the pin and it seems we were off about 25 feet. That's the equivalent of about a 2 degree error, but I'm not sure it was a consistent one. I think it was more of a slice. Next step is to head back the other way and try to repair the deficiency.

Then there is a right angle turn for a theoretical 300' or so. Walked this section but it is extremely thick and couldn't find the pin, or any additional barbed wire. Then another 300' to where Zack found a pin, thence a pretty easy 80' to the final pin near Derby Rd. The pin Zack found is not far from where our new path through the laurel skirts the wetlands.

Running 38:27 [3] 3.5 mi (10:59 / mi)
slept:6.0 weight:167.5lbs

At McLean Game Refuge with Rhonda. She was looking for a short, easy run - clockwise loop from corner of Barndoor Hills and Simsbury Rds. As it was pretty steamy, we both wore blue hats, which made for an interesting experiment. When we run on roads, Rhonda always runs about a half stride in front, but on trails she prefers to run behind. I assume there are a lot of variables, but I wondered if being second in line would make her more attractive to FDFs than the person running first. Kind of analogous to the theory about rattlesnakes, that the first person wakes it up, the second makes it mad and the third gets whacked. One might also wonder about whether a taller or shorter person would collect more, and about whatever the quality of a person's sweat or other bodily profile might represent in FDF attraction.

Anyway, the results are in: At the end, I was 31-2, while Rhonda was 43-0, with one wandering around in her hair.

Event: Laramie Daze

Note
weight:165lbs

Big laurel wrangling day, including some chainsaw work and some regular old lopping and pole sawing, etc. Pretty sweaty work.

Running 1:22:10 [3] 8.65 mi (9:30 / mi)
weight:168lbs

Pleasant Valley river run - Up E River Rd, back W River Rd. In the wake of Rhonda and Kathleen, although the wake was fairly quieted down by the time I got there.

Some perspective for Phil's tales of prodigious water loss. I dropped 3.5 pounds, and it certainly felt like a lot. It was quite steamy this am. Hard to imagine the amount Phil lost the other day.
