Orienteering race 1:01:05 [3]5.3 km (11:32 / km) +190m 9:46 / km
weight:165.2lbs
Day 2 of Western States meet at Boggs Mtn. Much more satisfactory run, with no major screwups and only about 4 minutes or so lost to lapses in concentration. Ended up third on green (out of about 60). Steve Gregg was first and Bruce Wolfe 2nd. Actually wasn't even tired when I finished. Generally a pretty fine experience, if not a perfect run.

I think the appropriate gift for the course setters would be a meter stick. Generally anything advertised as less than a meter (as in .8) was the size of a toaster. Anything around a meter was maybe the size of a microwave oven. A 2 meter boulder I would expect to be at least as large as a refrigerator. Instead it was about the size of an automatic dishwasher. Once I got the hang of it, though, it was ok.
Note
As compensation for waiting around while I chatted up routes and split times with my friends, I treated Rhonda and Kathy to a trip to Indian Springs. Mud baths, massages. Kind of interesting, but I don't expect to be doing it again. I'm certainly pretty clean now.

Green Day 2 - Splits

Saturday Oct 13

Event: 2007 Western States Orienteering Championships

Orienteering race 1:13:03 [4]*** 5.2 km (14:03 / km) +180m 11:59 / km
spiked:11/15c
Day 1 of Western States at Boggs Mtn - Green course. Preposterous error right at the start. Seems the control circle for #1 and the start triangle overlapped about 30%, and I just never saw the first circle, just the line leaving the start and heading over 400 m away to #2. Got all the way to it and punched it before thinking, that's not the right code, and figuring it out. Spiked #2 the first time, but then was moving faster and ended up a bit low the second time. Will post comments when I get my splits up.
Hike 1:15:00 [3]3.5 mi (21:25 / mi)
Brisk hike with Rhonda at Annadel when we got back to SR. Up Cobblestone Tr around Orchard Loop and back down again.

Green Day 1 - Splits

Thursday Oct 11

Run 2:00:00 [3]9.0 mi (13:19 / mi)
Really fine trail run with Rhonda at Annadel State Park in Santa Rosa. I never made it to an o-meet there when they used to have them. It would be fun to see a copy of the map. We were using the trail map. Pretty fun. It would be hard to imagine a more pleasant place for a trail run. Route generally was Channel trail to North Burma to Louis, around Lake Ilsanjo to Rough-go to Cobblestone past mining area, then on a trail not on the trail map back to Rough-Go, then Orchard back to the Lower part of Cobblestone and out.

Hike 1:45:00 [3]
Hike around Howarth park, Spring Lake Park and a bit of Annadel with Kathy and Rhonda. Impressed with how sprightly Kathy is. She was doing a lot of walking this summer and has upped her speed.

yoga-pilates 1:00:00 [3]
Rhonda's 5:45 am group. Pleasant exercise with the girls: Jan, Kathleen and Claudia. Tried to interest J-J, who spent the night post-Highlander, but he didn't bite.
