Sunday Nov 25

Event: Mt Tom

Orienteering race 1:30:25 [3]6.2 km (14:35 / km)
weight:165lbs
Mt Tom Red Course. Fine course by Phil, very physical first part. Only one real error - but about 7 minutes. Parallel error and then slow relocating.
Note
An hour and a half of rather pleasant trail clearing with the chainsaw. I have a section between my new road through the clearcut and the path Zack and Brian and I cut through the laurel that has a lot of logs lying in it. Lifted them with my timberjack and cut them to firewood length, and will cart them out of there in the next few days. My first thought was to call it a peavey, but figured I'd better look it up. While similar, it is more of a cant hook with an attached stand to lever a log up.

Red - Splits

Saturday Nov 24

Run 1:16:21 [3]6.0 mi (12:42 / mi)
weight:166lbs
At Penwood with Rhonda and Kathleen. Started out on trail to the west, but apparently missed a turn and ended up on powerline west of ridge, so climbed up to the park road, then N on trail at base of ridgeline to extension of Terry's Plain, then back up the trail on top of the ridge to head south, finishing on the road S from Lake Louise. Hadn't run here in several years, and it was remarkable how much more difficult is was than I remembered. Left me pretty tired and had to take a short nap after lunch.

Friday Nov 23

Run 46:27 [3]5.7 mi (8:09 / mi)
weight:168lbs
Pleasant Valley out and back on E River Rd, with Rhonda and Kathleen, and special guest PG. Cold and blustery, and feeling some effects of over-calorification. Tried to hang onto the group, but they scrubbed me off at the first hill at about 1.5 miles. Still kept gritting my teeth, and this is my best time so far this year. Splits: 9:16; 14:52; 14:01; 8:18. About :53 behind the group.

Pretty good night's sleep. We banished Rebekah and family to the basement after her performance the night before, which woke us up permanently about 1:30 am.
C • So here is the fine group (... 2

Thursday Nov 22

Note
About an hour's pleasant laurel wrangling, working on extending some open area from the big rock down to an old skid trail. Accompanied by Charles Jr., who has some laurel wrangling history here about 12 years ago.

Wednesday Nov 21

yoga-pilates 1:00:00 [3]
weight:164lbs
Rhonda's morning class.
Run 52:29 [3]5.7 mi (9:12 / mi)
Pleasant Valley, with R & K. Stiff in the legs today and couldn't get going. Girls way off in front. They had a 3 1/2 minute lead at the turnaround. Splits: 9:55, 16:57; 16:26; 9:11. On the other hand, since it was just the legs that wouldn't move, less of a sense of effort than the other day when I was working hard to go faster.
C • Happy Thanksgiving!! 2

Tuesday Nov 20

Run (treadmill) 15:00 [4]1.9 mi (7:53 / mi)
slept:6.5 weight:165lbs
Rhonda's morning cardio group, alternating 9:30 and 6:35 pace.
C • pace 2
cycling (stationary) 15:00 [2]
With the morning group.
Rowing Machine 10:00 [3]2.2 km (4:33 / km)
With the morning circuit group. Not in the habit of rowing and it will take a while.

Monday Nov 19

Run 47:03 [3]5.7 mi (8:15 / mi)
slept:8.5 weight:164lbs
Couldn't get up this morning in time for class, but did catch on with K and R for the run from Pleasant Valley this morning. Hung with them on the way out, and got a bit ahead on the way back. They were just chatting and letting me go. They could have reeled me in at any time, more or less, although I am relatively better downhill and on the way back, while they tend to run more evenly. Feeling kind of ouchy, but this was my best time on this route this season. 9:38, 15:26, 14:08, 7:51. Looked back to April '05, when I ran this route in 42:15, so a fair amount of work left to match that record.
