1 dog loop. Had thought I would do two, but my legs were uncomfortable and I figured one would be enough. Then I got to the gate leaving the old clear cut and was confronted by something hadn't seen before: a deer had been running along the path and jumped through the slats of the cedar gate. The head and shoulders made it through, but not the hips and it was stuck with no leverage for the feet. It struggled fiercely, but was dead by the time I arrived. A sad story. The run included about 3 minute extricating the deer. Maybe someone will come eat it.

Working out with Eric. A little more today, as I was not as sore as last week. More squats, some pushups, stepups. Still pretty basic.

Note

AOWN: Zack alerted me to a dead long-tailed weasel in the yard, more or less in the middle of the field in front of the octagonal barn. No idea how it got there, but a handsome animal. I used to know how to post pictures, but seem to have lost the ability to do it.

Note

Out with Zack for an hour or so wrangling laurel. Not a friendly activity for my back, unfortunately. We did clear a pretty nice little area.

I was talking with PG about hill climbing and that reminded me that I have not been up the Devil's Elbow in quite a long time, probably more than a year. That got me to wondering about whether my new climbing approach would work out well for it. The route is a loop from home down Wright Rd to 179, up Case to Edgerton to 219, then 219 to Ratlum to Ratlum Mt, where lies the Elbow. There is also a pretty good hill on Case, and I made it up that in my 3rd lowest gear, seated, reasonably comfortable. Eventually to the Forearm, and made it up that, counseling myself to be patient, also in the 3rd lowest gear, then the road bends right and gets a bit steeper, question of whether to downshift or stand. I stood for about 20 turns then sat again for about 30 more, then stood for 20 and I was done. Very satisfactory.

Carrying some extra g on this trip, too, after a wonderful party at Lina and Angelo's more or less in honor of PG's birthday. Quite a fine time, and quite a fine family.

Same ride as last week. Pretty fine. Down past Ski Sundown to 219, up along the reservoir and over the dam. Beach Rock Rd to 181 to 20 and then down to Riverton, along E River Rd to meet Rhonda. 3 fairly noteworthy hills on this ride. The start of Beach Rock Rd, not long but fairly steep, then two different climbs along 181. Felt pretty good all the way.

Not sure what was going on with the Garmin. It was very confused about where I started, but the start was definitely at the house.

With Eric in the gym. A little more, but still just gingerly core and stretching, some very modest squats.
