The “Lamb” at Anza Borrego. Mass start with a few twists. Navigation pretty straightforward, even the sections with the map blanked out around a circle centered on the control.

The “sprint” at Anza. Some very steep and slippery stuff. Easy enough to find the controls, really hard to get to them. Some of the younger guys just went running down these steep slopes covered with pointy loose rocks, but I didn’t have the balance or the courage for it and fell three times, sliding on my butt. Very gnarly conditions. Rhonda just got the map and went for a walk on the trails.

All those splits on my track are places where I inadvertently hit the watch with my wrist when I was crawling up or down someplace.

HVO/WCOC Winter training course 2 Green at Huntington SP.

A little difficulty finding the right parking spot. Started at #1, so the first split is for 1-2 and the finish is for 13-1. Generally ok, but had a bit less spunk than I did 2 weeks ago at Blue Mtn. Really showed any time I got on a trail and just couldn't get going. But woods were fine, navigation was certainly ok. A couple of times I didn't execute all that well. Particularly drifting way too low on the way to 6 and having to climb. Route to 7 wasn't too great. Better to have gone SW to the trail along the marsh instead of going W and crossing that rather gnarly hill between the trails. 9 was the only one I actually missed, going too high and having to puzzle it out for a moment before seeing the correct re-entrant below me. I felt like I was slowing down toward the end.
