Saturday Jan 25 #

In NYC for Cooper’s birthday party. Maybe Westmoreland tomorrow on the way home.

On the roads, Ann loop. Barely moving, but I guess I am determined to try to start running again. I've put it off quite a long time because of back and leg pain, but that hasn't seemed to resolve my problems. So this was a bit hard. Just not used to it.

ahr:118 max:146 shoes: Dion 121 snowshoes

Sort of running, sort of shuffling. Wanted to see if the snowshoes were better or worse than the micro spikes I wore the other day. Seemed like I slipped less, but the snow is already somewhat melted, and it was still hard to make progress.

Note

About an hour down at the marsh with Zack, chainsaw and loppers. There are several trees partly down and we were cutting the tops into pieces small enough to drag to a chipping pile and cutting the larger limbs and trunks into firewood, hauling it out to where we can pile it in the Polaris later. Just working on the first big tree in our path today, and just until the chainsaw batteries died. We don't much use the gas saws anymore, at least unless we are dealing with something very large. The battery powered Makita saws are very convenient. Low noise, no idling, just on or off, push-button start. You still need to remember to supply them with bar oil, but otherwise a good choice for a gentleman tree cutter like me.

Tuesday Jan 21 #

11 AM

Gym (Yoga) 20:00 [3]
slept:4.5 weight:165.8lbs

Late night getting home from SD. Yoga did me a lot of good.
3 PM

Running 25:52 intensity: (19 @1) + (17:28 @2) + (7:07 @3) + (58 @4) 1.33 mi (19:27 / mi) +41m 17:45 / mi
ahr:125 max:154 shoes: 2019 Blue Gel Kayanos

With micro spikes. Maybe running snowshoes was the right choice. Slippery, about 3" of snow. Slow.

Note

Now that we have gotten rid of a big chunk of laurel we can get into the marsh behind the little pond and we were cutting up some half fallen trees for firewood and to open things up.

Brown course at Anza Borrego. Some really bad controls early, then pretty good from 4 on. Physically very difficult. Lots of climbing and descending slippery rocky slopes, including some I didn't need to.

Brown map

And for reference, Rhonda's Yellow map. I haven't seen any results, but the ones I saw when I was at the finish indicated that everybody in open yellow was DNF, including several people old enough to be using walking sticks and not about to slide down into those canyons.
