What was I thinking? Anyway, stealth trip to Mt Tom, past the sign at the border telling me to quarantine for 14 days for entering Mass. The orienteering was not great. No life in the legs, of course, but also got utterly lost on the way to #3, an area I have had trouble since I first went to Mt Tom almost 40 years ago. Then another walkabout at #5, went right to it (so I thought) but no flag. Kept relocating and coming back, finally decided enough is enough and left. GPS track seems to indicate I was too low. I guess. Then headed straight back, maintaining good social distance the whole way. Stopped for cheap gas on the way back, then back across the border with the notice to quarantine 14 more days when coming into Connecticut. So now do I need to quarantine 28 days? or can the quarantines run concurrently?

Just tired. Wouldn't have done this if I didn't want to get in a few K per day at least for the next few days.

Note

Took the truck down to get the winter tires swapped off. On the way back stopped to talk with the guys taking trees and branches away from the power lines along Bunker Hill Rd. They had a truck full of chips and happy enough to bring it up for me to spread on the trails. And I was happy enough to give the guy a $20.

And in a little while, back down to swap cars and get the tires swapped on the red car. They are on short hours these days, closing at noon, so the other cars will wait until next week.

Running 37:11 intensity: (1:04 @1) + (3:26 @2) + (18:07 @3) + (13:44 @4) + (50 @5) 2.61 mi (14:15 / mi) +81m 13:00 / mi
ahr:141 max:169 shoes: 2019 Blue Gel Kayanos

Furthest outing in a while, or at least since the hamstring fiasco of a few weeks back. Not bad. Don't think I'd have been smart to try to go any faster.
5 PM

Hike 53:49 intensity: (5:48 @0) + (32:09 @1) + (7:22 @2) + (7:56 @3) + (34 @4) 2.01 mi (26:46 / mi) +64m 24:22 / mi
ahr:105 max:146 shoes: 2019 Blue Gel Kayanos

Down to the bridge to watch Zack clear out a section of the beaver dam. We'll see how long this lasts. Then I moved some streamers on a trail Zack and our neighbor Glen had flagged. I wanted them a little away from features I use for orienteering, and wanted to use an old hunter trail a little further down the hill.

I was tired, but wanted to get something in and had missed it earlier with all the car swapping and a few other errands.

ahr:103 max:124 slept:6.75 weight:164.6lbs shoes: 2019 Blue Gel Kayanos

Out around the property, including a stop at the bridge to see the heron nests in the Big Down Marsh, and to see that it didn’t take our resident beavers long to repair the damage Zack did to their dam on the Little Down Marsh last week with the backhoe. A skin of ice on the Little Down Marsh this morning. It’s been pretty cold.
10 AM

Rowing Machine 13:32 [3] 3.0 km (4:31 / km)

Missed yesterday, and now there is some urgency to my idea of getting up to 100,000 for the rowing season. Only 9,000 to go, but only a week left and we may be taking off for the wilds of Manhattan any time now.
2 PM

Running 13:49 intensity: (1:30 @2) + (8:07 @3) + (4:12 @4) 0.97 mi (14:15 / mi) +29m 13:03 / mi
ahr:140 max:159

Thought I would try to jog a dog loop. A little fail in that the watch didn’t start when I did, so only got the last 3/4 of it, so probably equivalent to 18 min or so. Hard. L hamstring sore, legs tired.

10 AM

Note

An hour and a half of laurel wrangling. Getting another big pile together.
1 PM

Note

Spread a couple of loads of wood chips, and then unwittingly got a boulder in the spreader, which then promptly jammed and bent the paddles, enough that the rightmost paddle got hung up on the body of the spreader and ended up breaking the pin that connects the pulley from the belt from the PTO to the pulley that drives the chain that drives the bed of the spreader and the paddles. So no more spreading until I get a part and get things going again.

Not much interested in taking it apart right now because I got really chilled driving it around and then trying to see what went wrong. Got it hooked together enough to unload the spreader, but not enough to use it with any confidence. I’ll take it apart on a warmer day.

Note

Solid 2 hour laurel wrangling expedition, including liberating a heretofore unknown boulder only about 15 feet off the trail. Surprising what you can find in a laurel thicket. If I get in the right thicket, I might even find an SI stick. Seems a cadet lost one once during the night o in a thicket that was most definitely not a preferred route choice.

Better than Sunday, especially the R leg, although I’ll be careful with it for a while. The L on the other hand, is as tender as ever.

3 hospital loops plus a little to make it 2K. Seemed pretty hard and the hammies are tender. This was a bit faster than the other day, though.

Nice day, but this is as far away from the house as I got today. Split some wood with Zack earlier, baking bread with Rhonda off and on during the day.
