Road Cycling 4:18:00 [3] 90.0 km (2:52 / km) +1058m 2:42 / km

The Bupa challenge 137km (and shorter ones) got cancelled today due to predicted 42 degrees. So there were lots of people looking to ride somewhere. I got asked to lead a few out for about 100kms...
left home at 8.30am -met at beginning of Gorge rd - up Gorge to Cudlee creek café for a break.
Onward to Gumeracha to watch the TDU go past.
Also got entertained by both TV helicopters landed on Gumeracha PS for a pre-arranged refuel.
Back down to Cudlee Creek café for some to get more liquids and then up Lobethal rd and Fox Creek rd & ascent. Normally this is shady but obviously I normally do it in the morning as it was very hot.

Stopped at top and awaited the TDU peleton as they had a slight climb up from Lenswood. Some folk gave us ice here and we frolicked under a sprinkler. Have I mentioned it was very hot now?
One of the riders threw his feedbag out at our feet and it was practically full - coke can, gels, bars...bonus!

Then a bit of a bolt (albeit slowly) for the finish - Lenswood - up to Deviation rd - UP & across to Greenhill and then on to Uraidla. Watched the last 15 mins on the big screen...and relaxed afterwards under shady trees on the oval. On the at I had saved the bacon of lots of interstaters who didn't know the Deviation rd shortcut and were heading on the hilly route via Ashton.

Then a gentle ride up Greenhill and across Woods Hill rd and down to the Scenic hotel. We watered ourselves at Tom Playford's tapand headed down Norton and it felt like a furnace descending into the 43.7 temp suburbs. Drunk several litres once home and feel a bit heat affected.
