MTBO 1:47:00 [3] 29.0 km (3:41 / km) +155m 3:36 / km

SA Mtbo Champs - I was excited about doing my 1st real course for 9 months.
Despite pre-planning the 1st 9 controls whilst waiting I still managed to fluff up. Got 1 ok & took the best route choice there but then my mapboard came loose so I lost a little time sorting that and hurried on...straight to no 12..then to 3 and so forth. In my defence the 1 in the 12 was hidden in the map detail but there were obvious lines going from 1-2-3...and I had pre-planned going to the correct 2. Only when i got near 9 and looked at the routes from 9-10-11-12 did I realise my error!
I generally navigated quite well though found I wasnt looking at the map enough as my mind was wandering. Knee started sore & got worse due to some sandy tracks and faster speed than what I have been doing.
Though my riding speed was slower than 1 guy that i normally ride away from.
Got tired over last couple of kms.
After many hassles re course lengths, with non experienced course setter & controller I was very happy that the longer ones were used & turned out pretty right. One slip up was that they failed to put the code numbers next to each control - put them off to the side like foot O.
David Couche won our course with 1 hr 28mins ...but he is much faster & fitter than me & was riding a CX bike.

mt bike 1:00:00 [3] 10.0 km (6:00 / km)

Ride around Chalks area checking control sites for O and boardwalk for mtb for upcoming camp. felt very tired & dehydrated.
