walk 1:30:00 [3]

Had O down at Ocean View College, Taperoo all day ..from 8am to 3.30pm.
Kids were great although some got a little wet... Staff were all ultra keen and the school is becoming the first SA public school as a specialist in outdoor ed next year.

Put down 1 hr for put out and collecting controls ...though it took nearer 2 but I was nt walking all that time. When got home had a 30 minute walk to shops and around to stretch a sore back from standing all day.

Road Cycling 2:50:00 [3] 66.0 km (2:35 / km) +110m 2:33 / km

Had to drop the van at Tonkins west of the city to get a new radio.
So rode with the Bike SA Wednesday group.
Started at brewery on Port rd and did various bits of the Port, Outer harbour - Glenelg - past airport - greenhill rd - Tonkins.
Slow initially thru back streets as we had about 20 riders. Dropped to half for later part and on better roads to ride harder.
My legs felt a bit tired after yesterday but I still did quite a few fast efforts.
Met again Janet, whom I had first met in Alice.

Road Cycling 3:10:00 [3] 70.0 km (2:43 / km) +995m 2:32 / km

Finally got out with the Bal group again.
The guys I often ride with set off a few minutes ahead of me, as I got delayed by following concrete trucks in the hills.
Got close early on to them but my climbing legs were surprisingly absent, which everyone commented on.

Bal - UP for 10km to Uraidla then across to the Norton Summit - Lobethal rd and then a few more climbs incl a stiff 2km one. The faster riders caught me but got stopped by a red roadworks light and then I stayed with them to Lenswood, down Fox Creek rd to Cudlee Creek.

After coffee break I rode largely with Vicki, Marg & Bob who were doing the longer course back. Vicki said whilst cleaning her cupboard she had just found results and medals from 1994 which detailed us both being in the Adelaide cycling club 4 person team that won the 1st ever elite women's team time trial on the just opened Gepps Cross velodrome, AND the state road team title too. I remember both races well as our team consisted of 2 Australian team riders, Vicki (state track champ and later a World age Champ) and me. I actually could ride road very well and regret finding the sport a bit late.

2nd half of ride - Cudlee Creek - Gumeracha - Lobethal rd diverting onto more hills of Burford Rd to Mt Torrens - Charlston - Woodside - Bal.

Lacking energy; chest hurt a bit when pushing on hills; felt powerless in the legs and repaired bike felt a bit dodgy on descents ..
Haematomas on both thighs have grown bigger as a result of harder effort ...

mt bike 3:30:00 [3] 38.0 km (5:32 / km)

Exploring ride for my next MTBO event in the Blackwood - Craigburn - Shepherds Hill area. Parked at bottom of Lynton trails - rode up and into the suburbs and did a number of streets and tracks checking map. Then down to train line and into Shepherds Hill. Rode all the trails there, incl the downhill ones, so did a fair bit of climbing. Then back via Hillcrest rd and up Shepherds hill rd to above the Botantic Park and across the streets to the Lynton bikepath and down.

Fair amount of stopping and starting due to looking at the map so I wasn't working too hard. Ribs still hurt.
Would have liked to have done the 4 hr Craigburn xc event today .....

Feeling a bit crook

walk 50:00 [3]

Walk around burbs and collected some mushies from a park for tea.
Been to the trauma surgeon today who operated on me last year... he was great, even asking me how the MTBO team I took away last year got on ...
Said to go ahead and ride hard and see what happens but got me an appointment in 3 weeks time to cut it, if it gets worse.
Have to see if chest is ok to ride hard - still too sore to sleep on side.

Had a fun day teaching at Lobethal Lutheran school today.
I thought the Principal was joking when he said to meet the class in the church for the intro talk. No!
I just about perched on the altar with the kids all in the front pews.
Adrian Uppill turned up to see how I was taught O and was amused to find me in church! Managed to get lessons in without rain but kids got really muddy.

mt bike 2:11:00 [3] 31.0 km (4:14 / km) +656m 3:49 / km

Needed to do a ride before seeing the surgeon tomorrow to ensure it is inflamed more than normal.
Thought I had scored a dry window again but halfway thru a big thunderstorm struck and I got very cold. Came back downhill into hail! Only had my windproof jacket so got wet. Had my sealskinz gloves on but they failed - very disappointing.
Wish I could still run as exercise, as you get warm doing that and need few clothes.

Thru streets to Anstey Hill and up and around the circuit below Range Rd Sth. Was at top when storm hit. Felt energyless - not suprising as been having little sleep for various reasons. Have way too much on my plate atm.

mt bike 1:00:00 [3] 15.0 km (4:00 / km)
(injured)

Working at Tailem Bend 9-3pm with RABR teaching skills etc to Community Centre staff as they have free bikes now available for loan. Was fun.
Had a quick spin around town at lunchtime with lee-anne and some slower riding with clients.

Road Cycling 1:35:00 [3] 34.0 km (2:48 / km)
(injured)

Up Norton to Marble Hill and down Montacute.
Managed to score the only perfect weather window of the day - cool and no wind. Only wore knicks though had jacket to put on at the top.
Very cold legs on descent.
Both thighs got lumps afterwards.

Road Cycling 3:10:00 [3] 63.0 km (3:01 / km) +550m 2:53 / km
(injured)

Lovely sunny day so decided to try out the leg.
Started at Glenelg - Marino bike trail to Hallett Cove S centre and followed bike track towards Mclaren Vale stopping at Hackam to turn around. Went back same way initially but took the expressway bike path to Darlington.
Then some streets to Brighton and back mostly along the coast.

Leg felt ok on the bike but swelled up afterwards.
Ribs sore when going above easy.

mt bike 1:34:00 [3] 24.0 km (3:55 / km)
(injured)

Taught O at Lobethal today & planned to ride afterwards up there.
However it started raining heavily when O finished so I headed for home figuring that it would be finer on the plains.
So just a ride along the Torrens and above in Highbury exploring the new aquaduct trail. Unfortunately they have only opened up about one third atm and closed off my illegal entrances to the rest. Still did several climbs up to LNE rd.
Ribs etc still hurt when I push but no longer with every normal breathe.
Haematoma is still up but my physio and I have decided to push on.
I would have liked to have raced the 4 hr xc at Craigburn this weekend .... but cant chance it.

walk 1:40:00 [3]
(injured)

Had a lovely night at Pt Elliott YHA and woke up to wet, wintry scene. Managed a 30 min walk along the cliffs and took lots of pics.
Then caught up with friends at Middleton and watched about 40 surfers enjoying the windy conditions and big swells. One girl got washed up onto the rocks but survived with just a fright.

Caught up with more friends at Goolwa and then did a walk from next to Currency Creek winery up the creek to explore a copper mine, canoe tree, cemetery and waterfall. Hadnt been there before. Decided to cross over the creek which required wading up to mid calf and found a ruined farm on way back. 70 mins.

Still quite a lot of chest pain.

walk 1:20:00 [3]
(injured)

After residing patiently in the recliner for 6 days and with the R thigh haematoma hurting more i decided that i will roll the dice and start exercising.
Also decided on an excursion to Pt Elliott, as i get 1 free night annually at a YHA from becoming a life member on the 80's in a cheap deal.
Did some O planning at Lobethal Lutheran school on way down. Did a walk at Strathalbyn ...even finding a cycle shop in a back street.
Then an evening walk in really mild temp along the bay at Pt E and rocky cliff path and back streets.
Now for the icepack ....legs are now blacker than black on colour. Arm moving towards green.

Sunday Jun 5, 2016 #

Note
(injured)

R thigh showing no sign of going down.
Cut foot is a problem as it is right on shoeline - sandals aren't too gd outside in winter.
"Worked" a couple of hours standing around (under a shelter) assessing half a dozen possible bike coaches for RABR and then giving them organisational tips. Nice to get out.

Friday Jun 3, 2016 #

Note
(injured)

Horizontal all day.
Not much fun sitting around with 4 icepacks on in winter.

Thursday Jun 2, 2016 #

Note
(injured)

Haematologist agreed i can swap medications ...once over latest saga...Told me to go straight to ER. I went via NAdelaide library to collect some books.
Actually ER was quite efficient ...took only 30 mins to get seen and 3+hrs all up.
Again caused several medicos to be called as heart rate was 46 despite excitement of ER. Lungs, heart and blood results gd. 2 fractured ribs cause of breathing problem .
Had 3 cuts in foot stitched up ..had to laugh as i had just put icepack over black sock. Only when i went to bed did i see the cuts and v bloody sock!
Haematomas look pretty bad ...will have to wait and see.
No riding indefinitely and then back quietly.
Could have been worse injury wise & timing..

Road Cycling 1:15:00 [3] 22.0 km (3:25 / km)
(injured)

Rode to Cycle ed on Torrens Rd. Took roadie as 27er is at bike shop and discovered a cracked rim on 29er last night ....
On way home I crashed into a ute that did a U turn in front of me in Walkerville. Going downhill, so hard crash. Shit!
Got lift home and bike to shop as I knew the sooner I got ice on the growing haematomas on both thighs and upper arm, the better.
Upper arm feels quite bad. Also cuts on nose, legs and a sore ankle.
Sore L chest now when I breathe.

Co-incidently I have an appointment with my haemotologist tomorrow.
On the positive side I didn't ride after getting the injury (unlike other times) so have prevented some extra internal bleeding.
