(injured)
4 x 90 min sessions with kids - this time the bike element was optional..they could opt for a 2nd go at laser skirmish.
Boss had said sometimes he only gets 1 or 2 in these circumstances.
Obviously I did too a good a job yesterday, as had 10-16 each session, with some boys even opting out of the initial laser skirmish session to do 2 rides.
They had quizzed me on arrival as to where we were going and how technical it was...
2 girls groups first. This time we asked them to self select themselves in energetic or not so energetic groups and that worked a treat. Not so energetic ones really advanced their skills, despite it raining lightly. I kept them in Woodhouse.
2nd girls group I ventured out on the Heysen trail to Bridgewater and beyond. I had feared that this might have to be aborted because they had a big storm last night but there were only 2 trees across the track. Trees etc were lovely and fresh and the fairy garden had heaps of "homes."
I had the most energetic boys group next (though not much difference) and I tried to tire them out but failed. Going down the grassy slope before the small tunnel to Arbury Park I had to throw my bike down to avoid a kid. Not a hard fall, as very grassy but my L leg got stretched and I "hurt" something in upper hammy / glute. Continued on but knew it would hurt more later.
2nd group of boys included 8 of previous group and 8 "less energetic" but the latter also wanted to do the harder ride, which wasnt so great for me.
So off down the Heysen again. This time I let some of the 2 time boys lead to certain spots, to save me having to ride hard - worked beautifully and the accompanying teacher was impressed. Coming back near Mt George a lady with a dog made a comment to me which I had to double back to ask her to repeat. It was "that is a nice polite group of boys." Wow.
I caught up with them and asked who had said what to the lady ...first one said "i hope youre having a nice day" about 5 hellos and a couple of gddays and they said they had ridden carefully past her!!
So a lovely day, but spoiled somewhat by the injury, which is quite sore now despite driving home with ice on it.
Managed to see the Mel Cup in between groups on a big TV - thought the school might have been a bit anti-gambling but teachers said not so. So I educated the kids on the %'s that jockey, trainer, owner etc get..
I'd asked the Boss about replacing a couple of bit broken bikes ...said might be difficult as he has 170 bikes going to the linear park tomo for Wilderness!
