Road Cycling 39:21 [3] 21.0 km (1:52 / km)

AS Masters games road time trial at 7am after little sleep.
Hard to know how to pace myself having not raced for many years and done no speed training in recent times. Caught women ahead of me (2mins) by 3 kms and when I turned at the 10+km mark I had 2kms on Robyn Brown who had started 2 mins after me. Knew pretty well I had her covered and with no-one directly ahead in my sights I perhaps slackened off a bit. Still struggled a little in last km. Pretty flat, rough surface, slight down on way back.
Won gold by almost 4 mins.

Road Cycling 30:00 [3] 12.0 km (2:30 / km)

warm up and warm down.

mt bike 30:00 [3] 5.0 km (6:00 / km)

Putting out controls in afternoon, after cycle prize giving and before opening march where I was standard bearer for O.

Friday Oct 7 #

mt bike 1:00:00 [3] 13.0 km (4:37 / km)

Practice at Scout Hall & westside for crit on 400m berm course and xc race on sat. XC track is very rutty and disappointing plus hilly.

Wednesday Oct 5 #

mt bike 1:30:00 [3] 22.0 km (4:05 / km)

Last ride taping some mtbo controls and much procrastination about where to place last foot o control.
Then met various Masters Games personnel to tidy up things - got medals, talked to sport medico, contacted for interview by Advocate for tomorrow ...though coming out Tuesday is a bit late for publicity.

Road Cycling 1:15:00 [3] 30.0 km (2:30 / km)

Evening road spin out south around the U loop, but it had sections of dirt as rd being widened, so I went into side roads and had some peaceful time away from traffic.

Then home to Purple pen my first map, with "phone a friend from ken Thompson." Question - how can a 3 m boulder (on which I have a control) disappear from the map when I put it on purple pen? Just checked in the terrain - its still there!

Tuesday Oct 4 #

mt bike 4:00:00 [3] 40.0 km (6:00 / km)

Guess at time, as I was out in the 29 degree sun even longer than that.
Taping control sites for mtbo and testing a few tracks for ride ability.
Rode the newish Warrigal track downhill way for first time - was fun except for when I almost went over a cliff.
Got a bit dehydrated...

Stopped on way over to assist an aboriginal guy who fell over and fitted on the bikepath -mainly by putting him in the coma position and calling an ambulance

Bought a "sexy lady" costume from Mad Harrys (gee AS has everything), as directed by my friend Janine. For the mtb bike hill climb up Anzac Hill - a 2 min or so climb & we get penalised 1 min if not dressed up in fancy costume.
Given that its in mid afternoon and likely to be 38 I needed a skimpy outfit.
Said "fits most sizes." and surprisingly it looks ok on me.

Monday Oct 3 #

mt bike 1:20:00 [3] 27.0 km (2:58 / km)

Frustrating day not being able to get out on bike until 6pm.
No daylight savings here, so dark at 6.30pm.
Lovely evening for it though I mainly road on bike
paths and back roads south towards airport and Ross river. Dropped in and watched BMX nationals on way back - they have a nice course.

Met ranger today to OK control placements - main guy was out of town and present ranger didn't have the aboriginal placements map but said I know you cant put them on those 3 boulders, pointing out the oked everything. Did ask me to put as strong warning in event info re dingos ,,,as several that have pups are growling at walkers.

Also saw boomerang throwing being taught to tourists in the Todd River.
then back to computer.

Sunday Oct 2 #

mt bike 1:38:00 [3] 22.0 km (4:27 / km)

Just to and fro the Telegraph station, returning a longer way to the east.

walk 5:00:00 [3]

Bit sad as I was ultra slow due to knee traipsing thru rocky terrain at TS foot O map. Hard to plan when cant run - hopefully will get a young orienteer from here to test run tomo.
Saw my mtb buddies at the café before I started ...
Saw a perente (lizard), a strange wallaby thing with a striped tail, a dingo, a small lizard, kangaroos ...obv I was moving slowly to see all this.
30 degrees or so.
