walk 3:00:00 [3] 10.0 km (18:00 / km)
(sick)

Walked up W..... Gorge in the Olgas. Bleak landscape.
Did the Valley of the Winds rim loop walk - great views from 2nd look-out.
Think Kings Canyon walk was the best for scenery. Olgas area bit too big for the camera.
Started driving homeward from Uluru about 2.30pm - 1600kms to go.

Stopped about 8pm at a nice spot 10km south of Marla amongst the trees and well back from the road. Got a shock when time was 1 hr later than I thought - SA time now.

mt bike 2:15:00 [3] 40.0 km (3:23 / km)
(sick)

am - Drove to the Rock (20kms bitumen) to maximise time.
Then rode around it twice, once each way and also the 2 km loop out and back to the Cultural centre, to have a look around.

pm - Rode around Yulara for a looksee. Stopped in on an aboriginal dance thingee; did a self guided walk of Desert Hotel's native shrub area (gd); visited the expensive supermarket without buying anything as had bought up in Alice. read a book.

Evening - went on a tour to have canapes and see the Light show which is here just for the year (until April) supposedly. But being the cash cow that it has been I'm sure that they will extend it. This has big reviews and people are flying in just to see it. All beds in Yulara booked out atm just because of this ..... Okay.

Climbing the Rock - I did it 40 years ago. Now still allowed but frowned upon. Cant do it tf too hot, too windy, wet or threat of rain .....

walk 2:00:00 [3]
(sick)

Did the Kings Canyon Rim walk with Manu.
Stiff climb to start with but walking actually easy after that as on solid rock not slippery stuff. Took closer to 4 hrs with numerous looksee and photostops.
Bit cloudy but was really impressive - I liked it a lot.
The signage etc is really gd in NT and around Uluru.

Drove another 300kms+ to Yulara.
Still a far number in powered sites and lots camping as no hotel beds available.

Went to sunset - limited sun reflection due to cloud.

Spent the morning getting controls and maps sorted, and packing clothes & endless stuff from 2 trips to Alice this year. Meant to do this yesterday but too crook. Many thanks to MC who put up with my disarray and 16 hr workdays. Was sad to pull out of Mt Johns for last time as M is Adelaide bound again with work.
Then waited 45 mins for blood test so last hr drive to Kings Canyon Resort was in the dark. Had a big herd of brumbies cross the rd, luckily on a crest so they stood out. Resort hardly had any quests ...i had choice of 20 powered site block.

mt bike 1:00:00 [3] 21.0 km (2:51 / km)
(sick)

Sick as a dog - high temp, raging headache, struggling to keep water down.
Had schools champs to organise - luckily I came up with a good plan for starting etc and I was able to supervise and not do much. This was aided by Penny, from OLSH bringing 5 student officials ....needed them. Two desert storm people did the timing and Manu checked cards and Doris Round helped on the start too.
Despite the printing being very faint (again) it all went well. C 2 & C4 were a little long but all coped. One of the little girls who got badly lost last year went solo and won, so excellent.
Manu & Doris collected controls while I tried not to die on site at the café.
Spent the afternoon with icepacks everywhere before I went into the pharmacy to get some medicine. Needed an IV drip in reality.

Decided to go for an evening bike cruise out to Flynn's Grave which actually helped for awhile - dropped in to give a key to Hugh.

walk 1:00:00 [3] 3.5 km (17:09 / km)
(sick)

Control hanging. 4 dingos attempted to round me up in the Todd.
Will need to tell my 10 yr old kids tomo not to be scared!
Feeling really crook - headache, sore throat, no voice.
12 hrs in front of computer.

Note

am Used my freebie for visit to Desert Park - lovely.
Had lunch at Bond Springs station 20 kms north.
The owner is a cycling patron who started sponsoring 2 junior riders from the AS Road cycling club to go I/s each year over 40 years ago as he had seen them struggling out training behind older riders.
Prizes given from results of todays race -"Head for the Hills" each year.
His property is 720 sq miles and runs shorthorn - organic beef.
He provided lunch today beside his pool after the race.
I would have liked to have raced but my 3 race licence had been utilised.

walk 2:00:00 [3]

Walking around desert park for 30 mins or so and then 90 mins taping control sites at TS.
