mt bike 2:00:00 [3] 20.0 km (6:00 / km)

Dragged myself over to Shepherds Hill to back coach Anna P up on the Giant girls only ride. About 12 of us and most were quite fit so not much hanging around.
Did some easier trails before heading on the uphill single tk (diagonal?) which is a 3-4 min climb and then cruised around the back practicing some berms. Then a series of 3 different DH runs and of course 2 more Uphill climbs.
Not overly long but quite enjoyable to be amongst others.

Annoyed that my trip south didn't achieve all my aims, as:
a) forgot mtbo medals I was to distribute
b) St T & Mortlock park maps I needed to check hadn't come thru
but I did go and visit brother Peter and look over the mtb trail plans for O'Hallaran Hill.

mt bike 3:09:00 [3] 54.0 km (3:30 / km) +192m 3:26 / km

Slowish ride from Grand Junction rd down Dry Creek trails to Mawson Lakes under the train line onto the Little Para trail all the way to Carisbrook Park and then thru back streets past Parafield airport back to Mawson Lakes and the final climb of 4.5km up (about 80metres) back to Nelson rd / GJ shops.

Got really dry in mouth and thirsty on way out as riding into the northerly wind and 30 degree temp.
not energetic and still got bad cough.

mt bike 4:00:00 [3] 60.0 km (4:00 / km)

Working for Bikeabout with Tatachilla yr 9's from the zoo.
60 in first gp, and 40 in 2nd group. 3 of us coaches plus teachers.
Went west towards the sea initially but had a big detour at South Rd - 1 blow out crash but all gd.
2nd group we mainly went towards the hills and being smaller the group was faster. Showed them the delights of Lochiel park, incl the free library.
Had a girl ride off a bridge into the Torrens! Luckily there was a fair amount of water where she landed and she bounced out quickly. I however had to get wet fishing the underwater bike out!

Travelling home ...meant to go for a ride somewhere but had nearly a 2 hr stop at Trevor's farm 8 kms from the SA-Vic border to see how he was recuperating after his fall.

Missed seeing the Melbourne Cup for the first time in years ...but its lost its appeal a little with the field mostly consisting of overseas horses, so its impossible to guage their form or ability.

mt bike 5:44:00 [3] 82.0 km (4:12 / km) +1158m 3:55 / km

Daylesford to Magpie...some kms past Ballarat near Bunniyong.

Started at 9.20 and finished at 4pm with hot chocolate stop in Creswick
Just 3 of us today - Ballarat riders Monica & Tracy were my companions, so they were bolting for home, so less pictures.
Gary was needed back at his work at the airport and Trevor was supposed to be bus driving but was at home near Bordertown convalesing.
Christine & Michael were tired and not so fit as at Mawson time so decided to help pack up.

We had trouble finding the start at Lake Dayselford ...into Sailors Gully area which was hilly, then a nice section in Wombat forest incl the short rail trail section...more single tk and then about 12kms on flatish bitumen or bitumen rds from Mollongghip, pas Dean and across to the next lots of bush behind Creswick.
Quick stop for our sandwich lunch here. Some more hills and one detour thanks to a lack of signage at a junction, then past St Georges lake on the N side and into town for a hot choccie. Highlight was a chook under the table inside the Bean...café.

Climbed out of Creswick mostly on dirt rds initially and went around the west side of White Swan reservoir and into Nerrina and onto nice single tk there. Emerged down and thru the koala tunnel and onto the creek trail past Black Hill oval & pool. Monica then led us thru some back streets util we finally rejoined the trail in central Ballarat going alonsidethe creek below Sebastapool. A lovely dirt track which I had ne been on before. The trail eventually went off to Bunniyong while we went to Monicas home in Magpie.
A good last day and wasn't too hard.
UP 1143 DOWN 1038

Got fed chicken and vegies by Tim cooked on the wood stove and then Michael drove me back to Castlemaine where we stayed with Alison & Tony Radford. Michael headed off to Sydney next morning.

mt bike 3:35:00 [3] 38.0 km (5:39 / km) +1028m 4:59 / km

Ride from Fryerstown to Lake Daylesford via Hepburn Springs.
With a delayed tea last night and then most getting late to bed we weren't superfit this morning and it showed. Most were also more tentative on the single track.

Over to Vaughan Springs and we went the ride way (though I have done the single "walk" track in the past). Looked at the springs and then had to ride over a deep ford crossing where most stepped off and got wet feet.
Some knarly single track, then some better single tk and finally some long gentle uphill rds to the main Ballarat-Bendigo highway.

Down besides that for a bit to the Chocolate Mill - Gary ordered a sundae for $5 and it was absolutely enormous with chocolate dribbled on it.
A climb up to Hepburn Springs and taste of the waters and then onto Daylesford.

The way we went the profile showed it all uphill.
Stats were UP 1028 DOWN 805.
So a lot of climb over a short distance.

walk 1:15:00 [3] 6.0 km (12:30 / km)

Walked around Fryserstown looking at changes since I was first in the area in early 1980's. More houses. Engine house has a new roof. Burke & Wills Memorial Hall. Place with a model railway complete with station. Commune type place.
My knee didn't like this but bike was attached to a car ready for move tomorrow.
