Road Cycling 4:59:00 [3] 101.0 km (2:58 / km)

Decided I needed a long ride but slept in too late to do Buffalo one.
parked near Vic park ...thought traffic would be gd as 300,000 were at the Xmas Pajent.. and others at the horse xc but it was busy on Greenhill...
Very slow on Turtur bikeway as had to get across South Rd unaided by lights etc - Glenelg. Sand stage for Missy Higgins concert tonight.

Along coast & up thru Kingston Pk CP to Hallet Cove bikeway and then the bikepath to the Southern expressway. Inadvertently took the wrong trail (Coast to Vines) southward - this was flatter but with many more rd crossings than SE veloway. Back onto the other one before Reynella & then onward to McClaren Vale and a brief stop for a sandwich.

Back on veloway with diversion to Noarlunga train station where I was uplifted to Hallet Cove (just because I could). Then to Glenelg and back via Edward st etc (past Edwardstown ps) as they were nice wide bike friendly roads.

Sad that friend Gillian Rolton (equestrian gold medallist & former teacher) died today from cancer at just 61 yrs ...in the midst of the International 3 Day event that she has directed and championed since its inception.

Note

Doing O at St Therese...on a completely grey rainy day.
Managed to get the kids out running around the school for half lesson each, which was adequate for first lesson.
Intended to ride afterwards but reneged as still raining.

teaching at Norwood PS on a very wet day.

Road Cycling 4:04:00 [3] 79.0 km (3:05 / km) +1200m 2:52 / km

Bal group ride (supposedly) on a hot 35 degree day.
I went early & Michelle arrived as I took off, so I said I would loiter a bit and she would catch.
Bal - Swamp rd - Stentiford -Collins Hill rd - Basket Range - Ashton - Marble hill - down Corkscrew - UP Gorge - Cudlee creek café = 45km, with 800m climb in the first 40km.

CCreek - back to Tippets rd over to Gumeracha hill climb - Gumeracha - climb to Kenton Valley & then finally some down to Charlston - bikepath to Woodside - Balhannah.

Unfortunately my map memory was bad and I was looking for Collins rd straight off Swamp, whereas Stentiford leads onto Collins....so I sailed onward towards Lenswood for several kms before retracing my steps.
I sent M a txt but she didn't look at it until she got to Ashton... so I had a solo ride. Faster guys caught me at Ashton but I knew that I couldn't go downhill fast like them so didn't latch on. After the café I was still eating my banana when Michelle & 3 others took off, so waited and went with faster guys to Gumeracha and then toiled on back solo.
Lots of climb but legs didn't feel too bad, with the exception of the Gorge rd climb, which they don't seem to like - 10.11mins.

Road Cycling 3:49:00 [3] 81.0 km (2:50 / km) +723m 2:42 / km

Planned an easiesh ride but an 8.30am start saw it already hot and little cloud cover today -34 degrees
Rode with David and Michelle, with Stu joining us until turning back at Chain of Ponds.
Home - Gorge - Chain of Ponds - Kersbrook - Williamstown - Lyndoch - bikepath to Gawler. Train to city (took an hour and was pretty full)
City via River Torrens - home.

Had to stop at Williamstown to refill water bottle and had iced choc at Lyndoch
Was going to go via Gum & Forreston for quiet rds but last part of Gorge rd is closed off for repairs, thus we took the shorter route via Kersbrook.
Not quiet - passed by 100+ MG cars!
I was coughing again today, so didn't extend myself - 9.24 for Dam climb is slow.
Lyndoch bikepath to Gawler took 45 mins - 16.4kms at 22 average - nice.
River Torrens from train station to home was 44 mins - 14kms, av 18.3kph
Heat was useful as saw no walkers/ runners / dogs on linear path only 3 cyclists.
