Road Cycling 2:44:00 [3] 49.0 km (3:21 / km) +702m 3:07 / km

Ride to TDU at McClaren Vale & up Willunga Hill.
Not a gd start to the day - after a not so good sleep I then dozed off after 7am and my alarm clock didn't ring as it wasn't set. So late getting started meaning I would miss my planned group ride. Then got 2 kms down the road and got a serious case of diahorrea - so retured home for a change of knicks, wash and immodium.
So then took the car and parked just off Greenhill rd to catch up some time.

South via back streets incl Winston ave to St Marys where I almost got killed getting thru the road works at South / Ayliffes rd junction. Breathed a sigh of relief when I made the veloway start.
After yesterday I was feeling somewhat tired so soft pedalled up the hill to Majors Rd. There were quite a few riders heading south, so it was nice to be around others. Along the way there would have been at least 1,000 riders heading back into Adelaide. Many groups were riding early this week and watching the TDU action on the big screen in Vic Square / Rapha pop-up / their hotels.

Got to McClaren Vale and met 6 of my friends who had ridden in from Clarendon. Also met Gary - a Melbourne friend who had decided on a whim to fly over with a mate for the weekend. watched the peleton go thru for their 1st lap and then rode over to Willunga and watched them do the main street "hot dog" for the final time. Then had an amusing (and difficult)
ride up Willunga Hill, with thousands of other riders and some walkers. There were many slower than me which made the climb easy.
My friends had started the climb before me, as I had detoured to the loo beforehand ...meant to be at the 500m to go area but I didn't see them / them me so I just rode on up to the finish. Grabbed another drink and watched the action whilst sitting / standing in the shade on the big screen. Got over to fence at finish & got a great photo of Richie Porte. He won the climb but was relegated to 2nd in general classification to Daryl Impey as they were equal on time overall but Impey had finished higher than Porte overall in stage places. Pity.
702 up ...406 down.

Road Cycling 2:22:27 [3] 51.6 km (2:46 / km) +427m 2:39 / km

Rode back down Willunga carefully and headed back homeward on the veloway. Had the option to catch the train from Seaford / Pt Noarlunga in the back of my mind: a) as feeling not so gd on way out b) I dislike the veloway's uphillness on way back & c) my electronic gearing warning light was on, meaning it needed charging soon.

Anyway there were bunches of others heading back so I initially decided on Pt Noarlunga but then continued on...regretted it almost immediately as the big climbs came on. Also I ran out of water - should be some water stations along the way. Many others were suffering also and lots stopped off at Hungry jacks at Darlington but I continued on.
A good day out! My legs have certainly benefited from this solid week of training.

Road Cycling 4:18:00 [3] 90.0 km (2:52 / km) +1058m 2:42 / km

The Bupa challenge 137km (and shorter ones) got cancelled today due to predicted 42 degrees. So there were lots of people looking to ride somewhere. I got asked to lead a few out for about 100kms...
left home at 8.30am -met at beginning of Gorge rd - up Gorge to Cudlee creek café for a break.
Onward to Gumeracha to watch the TDU go past.
Also got entertained by both TV helicopters landed on Gumeracha PS for a pre-arranged refuel.
Back down to Cudlee Creek café for some to get more liquids and then up Lobethal rd and Fox Creek rd & ascent. Normally this is shady but obviously I normally do it in the morning as it was very hot.

Stopped at top and awaited the TDU peleton as they had a slight climb up from Lenswood. Some folk gave us ice here and we frolicked under a sprinkler. Have I mentioned it was very hot now?
One of the riders threw his feedbag out at our feet and it was practically full - coke can, gels, bars...bonus!

Then a bit of a bolt (albeit slowly) for the finish - Lenswood - up to Deviation rd - UP & across to Greenhill and then on to Uraidla. Watched the last 15 mins on the big screen...and relaxed afterwards under shady trees on the oval. On the at I had saved the bacon of lots of interstaters who didn't know the Deviation rd shortcut and were heading on the hilly route via Ashton.

Then a gentle ride up Greenhill and across Woods Hill rd and down to the Scenic hotel. We watered ourselves at Tom Playford's tapand headed down Norton and it felt like a furnace descending into the 43.7 temp suburbs. Drunk several litres once home and feel a bit heat affected.

Road Cycling 2:12:31 [3] 38.0 km (3:29 / km) +666m 3:12 / km

Rode to Mylor where I met david & phil.
Left home at 8.45am ...found a wallet full of cards but no money and then once I hit the hills I played advisor to all the interstate groups looking at maps on every corner.
Home - up Norton - Ashton - Woods Hill rd - Summertown - Uraidla - Picadilly - Stirling - Aldgate - down Aldgate Valley rd - Mylor. Got there at 11am and had some food and waited for peleton to come past twice.

Road Cycling 1:45:00 [3] 35.0 km (3:00 / km) +432m 2:50 / km

Homeward - up Aldgate Valley Rd with quite a few of Tuesday Treadlers to Aldgate & Stirling. Watched TDU riders lap past and then finish from 140m to go point. Big group finish still with Caleb Ewan winning.
Up to crafers roundabout _ Piccadily - Summertown - up to Woods Hill rd - Ashton - Norton Summit - home.
Stopped twice to get wet - firstly under a sprinkler near Summertown and then alongside the Tom Playford statue (opposite Scenic pub). Felt nice. From Norton onwards it felt very hot - 39 degrees.

Legs felt good on way out and tired on return.

Road Cycling 1:34:00 [3] 27.0 km (3:29 / km) +392m 3:15 / km

Originally was going to ride around the Barossa with M&C++ & then watch TDU but I needed to take my mt bike in for repair at 9....
So did a few things around home, watched TDU on tv for part of day, had friends drop in...
My alternative plan for an afternoon ride got shelved too but I took off about 7.30pm for a little saunter.

Went up Norton and actually felt & moved quite well and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Was a lovely evening and coolish. Stopped at Playford statue & chatted to a group of guys, some of whom recognized me from my Revolve 24 hr fame! They were going on, but had lights.
I only had a tail light so rode homeward at slow pace.

Road Cycling 40:00 [3]

Token log from 5 hours of doing skills bike coaching at Prospect TDU street party, and a small ride to and fro the car.
I actually did quite a lot of demo'ing 2 legged pushes on the pedal less bikes.

Had an unscheduled visit to physio today as some-time in the night I turned over and badly strained my neck. He did a lot of work on it and was probably more sore but had better range in evening.

Road Cycling 2:53:00 [3] 70.5 km (2:27 / km) +246m 2:25 / km

3-6am session.
Really enjoyed this and especially the reddish glow of dawn emerging.
Though I'm sure the sun arose on the wrong side ...must have got disoriented driving into the venue..

Road Cycling 2:00:00 [3] 50.5 km (2:23 / km) +195m 2:20 / km

This was the final 2 x 1 hr. Strong winds had returned.

My last hour was my fastest and my fastest lap of 7.05mins came there too.
I did 85 laps and of the 165 starters in the 24 hrs I placed 26th for most laps done, even though I wasn't solo.
Only one solo girl did more laps of the women.
There was also 12 hr & 6 hr events.

My knees were very sore at halfway but improved.
Only had respiratory probs about dawn.

Road Cycling 1:27:00 [3] 33.5 km (2:36 / km) +148m 2:32 / km

From 9-10.30am. Strong winds.
