Road Cycling 3:05:00 [3] 70.0 km (2:39 / km) +97m 2:37 / km

Drove to Glenelg to do the 8am Buffalo ride but it seems it was cancelled due to 42 degree prediction given lack of people. Bit silly as it was only about 30 at 8am.
So I rode solo out to Outer harbour relatively fast, averaging 25.7kph.
Then diverted slower on way back (av 22)exploring some bikepaths around the Port and then the old tri course thru west lakes.
After back at Glenelg I then rode down to Kingston Park and back via Brighton to look at the sculpture exhibition (always good). Av 18, as included some walking between sculptures.

Brighton also had the Aus long distance swimming champs on, with my friend Malcolm organising. 1.25km laps from jetty for 5 / 10km.
Brought back memories of me doing the Aus Champs in the 80's and doing 8km at pt Noarlunga. Was cold so we all plastered on this fat like goo for insulation, as no wetsuits allowed. I was a distant 3rd in vets.
Gone away from black texta on arms to 6 pro looking stickers on back, arms & hands.

Note

45 yr old guy is critical after car slammed into him on Basket Range rd.
Evidently a 24 yr old woman passed one lot of cyclists on a corner going on the other side of the road and ran into the man with other cyclists coming the other way.

Exactly what I had forecast unfortunately as with the new rules allowing vehicles to pass over the white line no cars slow down at all now.
Some still go close but many go way over the line even on blind corners with some misguided perception that their right to do so means it will be safe.

Road Cycling 2:53:00 [3] 57.3 km (3:01 / km) +808m 2:49 / km

8am ride with MC.
Home - TTGully - up Seaview rd & then Range rd North - across to top of Ansteys Hill - Paracombe - Inglewood - Paracombe - Ansteys - RR Nth - Seaview rd - across thru TTG - home.
Nice circuit with a lot of climb on way out - quite shady too.

mt bike 2:00:00 [3] 21.0 km (5:43 / km) +720m 4:53 / km

Testing a Giant 29er - small size but still a bit unwieldy for me.
Bars were stupidly wide meaning that my arms were straightish and the seat was a minimialist one which was very long, so didn't feel very comfy.
Almost forgot to check seat height before I left shop - couldn't get it low enough so they generously put in a different new one off the shelf.
Rode around Anstey Hill in 30 degrees after getting a late start after picking bike up. Could do with some more xc rather than dh trails there.

My roadie was in for a thorough clean - Darren said he found sand in places that he had never seen clogged before. Also found that the bushel in my back hub was fractured which is the source of the noise I was hearing recently. Awaiting part from Melbourne so Int Cycles was good enough to loan me a high standard spare wheel.
Pete also said "it must have felt like pushing shit uphill in Revolve 24," which I replied "I thought wind & hills always felt like that." Might get a pleasant surprise eh.

My giant 27.5 is in for a big service atm, seeing I haven't found another mtb.
"you will feel like you are on a new bike" said Pete.

Road Cycling 3:30:00 [3] 71.5 km (2:56 / km) +1124m 2:43 / km

Bal group ride.
I started a couple of mins ahead of our group as my legs hate uphill starts.
Just softpedalled and they soon caught me but after the first hill.
Bal - UP towards Uraidla and then off left down past Woodhouse and across towards Aldgate via Anderson rd that has 2 x 16% climbs which I don't like.
Down to Mylor - Echunga - Flaxley - Mt Barker.
2nd half was around Mt Barker Springs - Nairne - Dawsley - Brukanga - Woodside - Balhannah.
I did a hard ride up the Brukanga climb, as I seem to like this ...steepish early, then an easier section and then about 5-6% for last 1.5kms.
Had a guy ahead that I gave a decent start too and caught well.

Annoyingly my cough and chest congestion came back again on this ride after hardly anything over all the kms in the last week.

Road Cycling 3:00:00 [3] 59.0 km (3:03 / km) +123m 3:01 / km

Recovery flat ride mostly with Rupe.
City - Brickworks - Valetta rd - Henley Beach - Glenelg - along the foreshore dodging cars & people to Kingston Park.
Return mostly the same way but addition of a lap of the Pat.
Saw a lovely looking Hobie foldable kayak.

Spent money at Harvey Norman afterwards buying a new bed.
Have a lot of things to do atm (which I have been putting off) so less riding in coming week.
