pool exercise 1:05:00 [3]

ARC session in morning as friend visiting later.

Session somewhat enlivened by the fact that i had to rescue a middle aged overweight non swimmer from drowning.
There were only 4 of us in the 8 lane 25m pool which is 1.2 at shallow end & 1.8m at deep end.
The guy i rescued had been hanging onto the lane rope with 2 noodles around him. By grabbing the lane rope, which moves, he lost control of the noodles which floated away so he was left yelling for help as the lane rope didnt support him. I was about 10m away running in the water ...didnt initially know what he was yelling about but swam his way.
Told him to grab a noodle which i gave him and hauled him backwards towards the shallow end, swimming initially.
Meanwhile i caught sight of the female life guard for the pool, who had been chatting to another lifeguard looking after the leisure pool, at the corner of both. On seeing the situation she took off her shoes and socks (not protocol for a rescue in my opinion) but I had got the guy back to shallow water by the time she had de-shoed.
Guy was very thankful - only his 2nd time in the pool - non swimmer and no idea what he should do...

Note

Got my first rotation on the bike today - yeh!
With seat very high & some sideways movement of the hip but i got there....did it several times in morning but not too comfortable. Will try again later

pool exercise 1:20:00 [3]

Hospital to ARC for water exercise in late afternoon

half walk, half shuffle 50:00 [3] 2.0 km (25:00 / km)

From pool to Jane Goodall talk at Convention centre.
Was gd - she is an energetic 85 yr old and has achieved a lot.
I think some of her "roots & shoots" offshoots might be a bit over the top in their anti-meat stance.
Had difficutly finding a park so had a 25 min walk each way, which kept me warm. R foot hurt on return. Longest walk since op - used walking stick.

half walk, half shuffle 20:00 [3]

In my effort to get out of the house i went to a history event - a looksee of the ABC building in Collinswood, incl radio & TV station.
Interesting that the building was originally built with a hospital design (like canberra hospital) as the govt was trying to safe on design costs.
The 7 story building originally had 750 employees in the 1960's but by 1970's had reduced to 250. Would be way less than a 100 now and ABC only occupies 2 floors.

Anyway this was a 90 min tour with some sitting down and a little walking.
Felt fine afterwards BUT when walking from supermarket to car my L calf yelped very painfully and was very sore to walk with.

Tried going for a 10 minute limp near home and it didnt loosen up.
Then I actually examined it - whole calf was very tight ...skin looked like it would burst if I pricked it with a pin. Measured calf and L was 4 cms bigger than R one ...pity I havent measured it before now.
maybe blood clot .....anyway had visitors coming ...so just put leg up and iced it for most of next 8 hrs...
