Race race 11:30:00 [5] 155.0 km (4:27 / km)

M2M multisport race.
RUN - 20km - 1.58. Nice start to the race, felt good for most of the journey, controlled on the up hills and a bit of a dip on the down hills. Good variety of terrain and overall enjoyable start.

BIKE - 50km - 2.34. Onto the bike after transition and into a 8 km decent, from there undulating then hilly for the rest. At the bottom of the downhill started to cramp very badly and this dogged me for the rest of the ride legs. Effectively could not stand up on the pedals so had to ride seated for the journey. This leg had me in a world of pain for along time. Becks flew past me about 15km in and was looking extremely comfortable. Just did what I could to get to transition.

BIKE - 40km - 1.43. More of the same, again a very nice decent to start then into the hills. Web site says 27m of climbing for this leg - think they are about 370 out. Still suffering quad and calf cramps so just eased ground through. Not overly impressed with route choice that had you riding on a six lane highway - that included going through a round a bout.


RUN - 12.5km - 1.30. Off the bike and onto the 2nd run, legs were feeling it so was a matter of doing what I could to keep moving. Nice run course and could have enjoyed if I was in better nick.

PADDLE - 15km - 1.46. Off the legs and onto the ski, couple of little rapids and snags to navigate early before opening up into an uneventful river paddle. Passed becks about 5 minutes from the end and he was in good spirits moving along nicely.

PADDLE - 16km - 2.00. After a sketchy transition ( 500m transition) the last leg was basically a into the tide and wind river paddle, was interesting paddling into the city passed the casino etc - bit different to the cam! It was nice to finish after 11.5 hours.

Basically bike let me down more than anticipated and not enough bike to run training made for a tough second run. I had listed before that 10.30 woul be great but 11.15 would be realistic, so effectively not to far off realistic time. In the wash up given the cramps etc happy with effort. Not overly impressed with the organisation, location of transitions etc but given previous race history not surprised.

Quick ride in the hills after work. From work - back cam road - hoarse lane- village lane and return. Final bike before M2M.
Bit underdone on the bike as been concentrating lots on run and paddle. Will be an interesting hit out on Sunday. Overall Probably been best preparation for race in a long time and at lightest I have been for a while, so excuses are gone. Race starts at 6.30 , presentations at 5............ Would be nice to be there just as they start ........10.5 hours would be best effort, but maybe a tad ambitious ?

Paddle on the leaven with the other muppets and marmsy. Great morning to be on the water. Couple of efforts at different times made for a reasonable hit out. Felt quite comfortable for the journey.

Hill ride from home to wynyard - yolla - oldina, wynyard and home. Very windy out and did not feel to bad, last 10km very cruisy.

Morning Paddle from surf club, couple of laps of the river and return. Steve out on the water as well and won the submerged log hitting contest 2-0.

Paddle with steve, managed to get from surf club up the river and back to boat ramp a couple of times. Was able to paddle back to the bridge before portage home. Full kit less poggies this morning - getting cooler.

Run from Burnie Park to yacht club and return via the around Burnie Track. Rained the whole way . Felt good most of the journey but wrong shoe choice resulted in a blister, newer inov8s are half a size too small. Better to know now.

Evening hill ride session. Started at yacht club and did fern glade, old Surrey road, bickport road, west moor vile, and 3 mile line. About 800m so tough little session. Did not feel too bad, but bit slow on the climbs.

Hill run around frenchs road reserve and Seabrook road. Tracks have just been opened up in the plantation above the reserve so lots of hill opportunities - although tracks are very messy with debris. Lots of climbing, with aim of two hour run, just going up and down hills. Ran with waist band drink holder which worked well, also took gel after one hour and I think this helped.

Double run Saturday. Trying to get ready for M2M, afternoon stroll along coopers lane with Jo then back over in the reserve for a few more circuits. Legs felt surprisingly good.

Paddle on the mighty Cam. 3 x 2km time trial up the river, recovery back to bridge. Much more comfortable on the stealth. Super evening for paddling, unfortunately will be early mornings for paddle after this weekend.

Friendly beaches loop from swanwick. Went via some nice single track around telecom hill behind Coles bay. Felt very flat this morning and struggled to climb with nothing in the legs.
