Hike 3:45:10 [3]
slept:7.0 weight:175lbs

Decent from camp ground just below North Dome. I was tired of dumping a lot of food out of pack at the end of every race and decided to go a little lite this trip. Perhaps not such a good idea. My son told someone we saw on the trail that there are no marshmellows at our camp. Unfortunately, the group ate food at a faster clip and I had to start rationing at dinner last night for the adults. I decided to only eat a power bar and nunn for the rest of trip. Cindy and my oldest son (Harrison-8) bolted down the mountain with packs and we did not see them until our hike in camp location. Unfortately, they were out of food 1/4 of the decent and ran out of water for the last 45 minutes. Cindy's brother and I carried most the weight and then the other two kids packs down the mountain. I helped my niece down the hill as she completed her first hike outside of a flat park in Kansas for 30 minutes. When our group arrived at the bottom, my son let me know that someone had swiped our bear canister at the hike in camp with the rest of our food. A little disappointing, but we were on our way out and were able to get food, after an extra 1hr delay.

Hike 6:25:15 [3]
slept:7.5 weight:177lbs

Good night sleep and a little slow start to the day. We ate a big breakfast before heading out the trail. We my two sons (harrison-8 and shane-7) and Cindy's niece (Claudia-9). This was their first trip carrying their own pack and Claudia first hike of any significance. Our Snow Creek wilderness pass allowed access to one of the steepest climbs out of the valley with around 3500 to 4000 ft on the menu to today with most of it coming in a 1 to 1.5 mile section. Both boys were blazing (for their age) up the mountain and we passed a number of adult groups on the trail. My youngest even told Cindy's brother that "break time is over, we need to stay in the lead". I cannot wait until he he is pushing his dad in the tranistion area of a race and we can give Team Tecnu a good chase in a race. My seven year old was the first to the top of the climb. At the end of the day, everyone was a little fragile, but pulled it together after soon rest, water and food. We did see a bear within 30 ft at the bottom of the trail, but it just ran by us to the water. I was proud of how everyone did, especially the young kids.

Good steady pace and pushed a bit at the end. It was a foggy day again.

Flexibility exercises

Note

Off to Yosemite for the weekend with some backcountry camping with Cindy, her brother and three kids around 8. I will be the main back mule and the elevation should provide some good training as we push the pace as fast as the kids move without packs.
