| Orienteering race (Long Final) 1:30:00 [5] **** | ||
| Another ripper! 14th for Ewelsy, 25th for Jo and 39th for Ness! The team was obviously rapped with the girls performances. We'll be eating dinner out in town tonight after the medal ceremony as a celebration.
Then it's back to business, the relay is tomorrow morning! The boys had a run in the spectator race today, in the same area as the long final. A lot of teams did the same - the finish will be in the same place tomorrow so there's sure to be some overlap. But first, here's some more photos...
The biggest stars of the day. Both very tired!
Everything you need for a super race.
The girls have some good reasons to be happy.
Watching the action afterwards as the big stars roll in.
| GLOBUS 30:00 [3] | ||
What can't you buy at Olomouc City and the hypermarket known as Globus?
But can we drink this stuff in uniform? Hehe that pink dog has a puffy tail.

| Orienteering (Long Final Model) 30:00 [3] **** | ||
Last night was a late one! The team arrived back at our accommodation in Olomouc after 9.30pm and had a quick dinner before hitting the hay. This morning we were up reasonably early and off to the long model event by 9.30. The mens relay team went out there with the girls running the long, using the middle model map which is the same area but at 1:10000. The terrain is nice but steep, it should be a good race...

| Afternoon Tea (AUS Supporters) 1:30:00 [3] | ||
| This arvo the Aussie team continued what's become a tradition over the years - hosting an afternoon tea for our supporters. It's our way of thanking them for coming all the way to the Czech Republic to cheer on the Aussies. This year there were plenty of quality Czech beers on the table, and despite all the talk the supporters didn't even come close to getting through them all ;)
The arvo tea outside the restaurant where we eat breakfast and the other 2 bland meals each day. The team photo. First one on the trog?

| Team Profiles:
6 questions, 2 possible answers per question. So 64 combinations of answers. None of the athletes in the team had the same answer set! What are the chances? We have 9 athletes, the probability that none have the same answer set is 64! / (64^n(64-n)!) which is approx 55%... Interesting. If we include the coaching staff the probability drops to 33%, wait till we see their profiles, will we have a perfect match? Coach Preston and Kathryn? Coach Neve and Gorgeous? Is this wrong? i.e. is it not interesting? Or is the mathematics wrong?

| Orienteering (Middle Model) 25:00 [3] ***** | ||
The middle runners (Ness, Gracey, Jo, Jules, Simmo, Shep) plus gorgeous and coaches Neve and Preston drove up to Anenska Hut for the middle model this morning. It was just like the area around the model, where we'd run the Czech team trials. Although being offset printed rather than copied or laser printed meant it was a fair bit easier to read (especially the light green).
Model map. The usual carpark shot. There was something Happening* in the forest around Globus this afternoon. The forest felt threatened by the humans mopping up all the bargains in the Hypermarket and released some sort of neurotoxin that blocks the self-preservation instinct in humans. Unfortunately, Vanessa was affected by the event...
* the team in no way recommends the viewing of this film. in fact, we highly recommend not viewing this film. it's crap.

| Orienteering race (Long Qualification) 1:00:00 [5] ***** | ||
| Go Aussie girls!
The whole team went north through Morgensternberk this morning up to the to either race or cheer on the runners in the long qualification. The girls (Ness, Gaz and Ewelsy) as usual ran real good and all made it through. Kez was pretty disappointed, he made some mistakes and said he lacked the speed to qualify. It's tough to make it through to the final! Kathryn and Jo watching their names stay high on the leaderboard... There were plenty of Aussie supporters out there this morning! Don't worry mate, you gave it your best!
Jo on the run in.
Kathryn at the last control.

| Orienteering 1:00:00 [3] | ||
| Following the action of yesterday the team had a well-earned rest day today. The long qualification is of course tomorrow morning so the 4 hard-core runners (Ness, Gaz, Ewlesy and Kez) headed out to the long qual model, while the rest headed up into the mountains for some middle distance training.
Le groupe Long Model Sue took the Note out with the girls (plus Kez) north for a long distance reccy. They ran around and were happy to see it was just like everything the team has seen during the training camp. The mapping was good, no surprises and everyone is feeling confident. Le groupe Middle Coach Preston lead the group up to the hills east of Sumperk and ran around in the "humid" (so the Czechs said, muddy would be a better translation) terrain putting out flags - super important in this tricky terrain. There was a lot less grass on this map, but a lot of green and some wet (deep!) marshes. Of course there was a quick stop at a bakery in Sumperk afterwards before heading home to watch Cadel take the lead in le Tour.
We stopped for a coffee at Globus on the way, Jules stayed in the carpark...
Georgeous ordered a hot chocolate. And thats what she got - chocolate that's hot.
We're up in the mountains, now whats this sign warning us about? Jules, are there wolves in Czech Republic? Warming up together A couple of kangaroos and a kiwi looking lost - this control is on a track junction... Sausages or?
