Resort Skiing 5:00:00 [3]

Skiing in Revy is not the same without "Bartney"! The house is so empty!

The morning was okay but the hill wasn't in great shape. My new skis are not great in icy conditions, but hopefully tomorrow I get to try them in deeper stuff, going up Begbie. Mike tried his new Insanes today and he did really well despite the lack of deep snow. Tomorrow night we are supposed to get 23cm so Monday should be super.

Spinning 2:00:00 [3]

Lots of E4 and Map work. I was having to work pretty hard to hold everything since I still can't breathe very well. Hopefully the cold will leave before the weekend!

Spinning 2:00:00 [3]

A bunch of high intensity work.

10 x 20 sec flat out, rest for 40 sec

40 km team race. Flat out for your own km while easy when other team mates rode. Slopes varied from 0-7. Each rider got 8 km of flat out riding in the set.

Spinning 2:00:00 [3]

A bunch of E3 tonight with only a little E4. It seemed like the focus was to use a pretty high level of riding as recovery after climbing and not let your body come down too low. During the class it felt really easy to hold everything, but I am surprisingly tired now.

Spinning 2:00:00 [3]

Warmup

10 km profile race. The ladies did 5 km. Me and the boys did10km. The boys started 5 minutes ahead of the girls...then the race was on. Who could get to 5 or 10 km first. I held an average of 215 watts and completed 10 km in 18 min 41 seconds and I bet two guys to 10 km and beat 2 girls to my 10 km (they were doing 5).

Next we diveded the group in teams. One team got a 4 minute lead and the remaining teams had to chase them to see if we could get to 15km each. You rotated rider on the team each km, so each rider did 5 km flat out on different slopes. Our team passed the leaders and we won :).

We finished off with 10x30 sec flat out sprints (with 30 sec rest in between each).

Really fun class - very competitive and very social. Made the time go by really quickly. I even beat my last time trial watts by 12 watts...I guess that is what happens when the pressure of the team is on.

Resort Skiing 2:00:00 [3]

Hammerfest again. Tonight we did Monday Crits:

5 x 20min + 2min (1 off, 1 on, 1 off, 1 on, 1 off)

E3, E4 and MAP work. Good class.

I tried my new road pedals and shoes for the first time. They feel good.

Resort Skiing 5:30:00 [3]

A full day at Kickinghorse with Mike and my new skis (Dynafit Manaslu). The skis and bindings arrived Friday night and we mounted the bindings before heading out to Golden. The setup is super light and it is very noticeable when wearing them. It feels like I'm just wearing my boots. The ski felt fairly good on the resort. It handled deep snow excellent and the crud and piles of snow great. It was trickier on the harder stuff. I felt a bit of chattering under the foot much sooner than I do on my sirens. And when I felt it, I was having more of an issue controlling it. They were easier to jump smaller jumps with than my sirens and they felt super easy to edge and turn. I can't wait to try them in the backcountry. They seem like a really sweet ski.

Spinning 2:00:00 [4]

This class kicked my butt! We did a 40km profile time trial and only had a certain amount of time to do it in. Only one person in the class made it all the way (yay, Steve). I made it to 32.2km and only averaged 170 watts which was a bit low. I should have been about 5% lower than my 20 TT watts (203), so around 190 watts. Just couldn't hold the watts through the climbing section. I'm completely exhausted now....

Spinning 2:00:00 [3]

The start of the "hammerfest" spin classes. As usual we started with the time trial. It was quite horrible to start with since my legs felt like burning led from so much skiing lately. The 3 minute TT did not go well but by the time we did the 20 minute TT I started feeling better. In the end I beat my previous best by averaging 203 watts. That's 3.6 w/kg. I'm a bit afraid what that will feel like when the classes start for real next week. We have another class on Wednesday so we have a chance to improve the watts in yet another TT, but that seems far fetched.

Backcountry Skiing 5:51:00 [3] +1655m

Back to the pass for a third day of skiing. We traversed past the area we hit on our first day, a little bit closer to Mc Gill Pass. Did one run down a small shute and then did two more runs down a run next to the first. Very nice snow on the first run but I also had really good runs down the two last ones. I felt a little slugish on our second climb but got some more energy after eating some chocolate. This was by far the best day out so far this year. Thanks Bart for being our guide! Mike, you'll think twice before poaching tracks again :).

Backcountry Skiing 3:17:00 [3] +505m

Rogers Pass again. Did the Grizzly Glades West (from the Hermit parking lot). Found some nice snow up high and some tighter tree turns down low. Mike, Bart, Courtney and Atsuko were all there. The AT gear was super good today, especially in the tight spots.

Backcountry Skiing 4:20:00 [3] +1220m

Mc Gill shoulder with Mike and Bart. First climb with new AT boots. They worked out pretty well, but in the end I got a couple of blisters. I didn't keep them tight enough on the way up so the foot was probably moving around a bit much.

The run down the top was super with nice and deep powder. The avy conditions were high so we stayed in trees pretty much the whole way down but there were a few open sections were things picketd up and we could just flow throughthe snow.

Fun run!
