Spinning 1:00:00 [3]

Another spin class in Ushuaia before flying out. A super good stretch after should help with the aches and pains of flying.

Spinning 1:00:00 [3]

Joined a spinning class in Ushuaia this morning. Not bad. It really helped wake up my body a bit after too much inactivity. Hopefully we can do one more tomorrow before we fly home. Next Tuesday we are doing our time trials in Calgary for this winter´s training....yikes is all I have to say about that!

Note

I had to go to the very end of the world to find a pair of XA Pro 3D (non Ultra), but I found a pair and I am soooo happy! Good for at least one more summer of racing. They were out of the men´s shoe so Mike is still looking. Even though Salomon is saying that they didn´t change the fit of the shoe, there is an obvious difference in the heel, which in the Ultra has more cushoning and material (I´m guessing that is why we get blisters). That still doesn´t explain why both of us are now a 1/2 shoe size smaller, but who cares now that I found the old ones!

Hike/Scramble 4:00:00 [3]
shoes: XA Pro Ultra1_1

Did a few of the trails in the the Tierra del Fuego National Park outside Ushuaia. Some beautiful spots but the trails are short and not very challenging. We were lucky with the weather since the sky opened up when we had just completed the hikes.

Note

My XA pros are dying and I am so very sad! The new Ultras don´t fit me and I can´t find any of the old ones anymore. What will I do?! Is this a sign that I should stop adventure racing?

Hike/Scramble 4:00:00 [3]
shoes: XA Pro Ultra1_1

A hike in El Chalten to try to grab a view of the Cerro Torre, but since it was pouring rain the whole day we didn´t see much more that some clouds and the toe of a glacier. Ended the day with a huge load of waffles and ice cream and that beats any mountain view! Fitz Roy was next on the agenda but we were rained out of that one as well....

Hike/Scramble 4:00:00 [3]

Last day of our trek. Up to the Torres lookout and then back all the way down to where we started the trek 9 days ago. Overall a very fun trip where we met some fun people and had some great experiences. Hopefully this trek will kick start me back into good training. My legs and back feel like they sure worked hard.

Monday Dec 14, 2009 #

Hike/Scramble 45 [3]

Hiked up to a high camp that would get us close to another lookout. This time over the Torres. Quite a bit of elevation gain towards the end.

Sunday Dec 13, 2009 #

Hike/Scramble 6:00:00 [3]

A hike to a beautiful lookout point as well as a hike to our next camp. Didn not arrive at the new camp until 9pm so we were pretty tired.

Hike/Scramble 7:00:00 [3]

A long day that felt pretty heavy. At midday we had a break at a refugio where we bought lemmon pie and stuffed ourselves. Mmmmmm.

Friday Dec 11, 2009 #

Hike/Scramble 3:30:00 [3]

A short and easier hike. Our packs were a little lighter since we had been eating so much of our food. The camp for the night was by the foot of a huge glacier that every now and then would let go of an icy chunk.

Hike/Scramble 5:00:00 [3] 12.5 km (24:00 / km)

Up and over a mountain pass that is famous for very strong winds. We were lucky and we could stay on our feet. We were treated to some awesome views of a huge glacier - huge!

Wednesday Dec 9, 2009 #

Hike/Scramble 4:00:00 [3] 12.5 km (19:12 / km)

A shorter day on the trek which took up higher up in the mountains and we set camp close to a glacier right next to a huge morraine.

Tuesday Dec 8, 2009 #

Hike/Scramble 6:00:00 [3] 18.5 km (19:28 / km)
shoes: XA Pro Ultra1_1

Day two of our trek was again very sunny and very hot. My pack felt a little lighter since Mike took a couple of heavy things from it. We had some very beautiful views and the trail was much improved from day 1.

Monday Dec 7, 2009 #

Hike/Scramble 6:00:00 [3] 16.5 km (21:49 / km)

Start of the Torres del Paine trek. Big and heavy pack made for a slow go up and down some very cow infested slopes. A very hot and sunny day with no wind what so ever.
