Mountain Biking 3:00:00 [3] +750m

Went for a ride on the Standard Basin trail with Mike, Revy, Trevor, Carrie, Tara, Adam and Karen. Beautiful day with sunshine and great views. The ride started really well and I managed to ride most of the obstacles on the way up into the alpine. As we were going across a steeper scree slope I endoed and slid down the scree slope with my bike. I knocked the wind out of myself and was fairly impressed over how much the human body can bend. Only some bruises and scratches, thankfully. We had lunch at the cabin and then returened back the same way we came. Some really fun and fast downhill sections at the end.

Mountain Biking 2:45:00 [3] 25.0 km (6:36 / km) +1115m 5:24 / km

Rode Martha's Creek with Revy, Mike and Trevor. A long climb on gravel road 1hr 50 minutes and then a long down hill on typical BC trails. The climb was a really good workout. Most of the time you could grind in middle ring but a few times the small ring was needed. I felt pretty good despite a lot of climbing this week. I was about two minutes behind the boys reaching the top. The first part of the down hill was really hard. Wet, steep and technical. I walked a lot of it. As the trail took us down it got a little easier though. I rode more and actually managed to ride stuff that was a bit scary. Some fun ladders and logs were built up. Also got a chance to practice some of the things we learned during our downhill clinic.

After a quick bite to eat we headed out for another MTB ride. This time Courtney came along as well. We did a trail in town that they call CPR. A fund twisty single track area that is pure fun. Next up: dinner!

Note

My dad found the result list for women from the road race in Sweden this summer, Vätternrundan. I placed 38th out of an estimated 5000 female rideres! I'm really pleased with that.

Mountain Biking 3:00:00 [3]

Downhill clinical with Nick Quinn (who placed second in the Mount 7 Psychosis this year).

Learned a lot of small fundamental rules of down hill riding. When we started applying them you could tell we were able to go quicker. I would still have to practice those skills a lot in order to build up confidence in myself and in the tires. A very valudable night!

Mountain Biking 2:20:00 [4] 23.0 km (6:05 / km)

Did the Powderface Loop with Mike, Clay and Steve. A really fun and fast ride. The climbing was really nice. I managed to stay with Clay the whole way up, and pretty much with Steve too since he was only about 10-15 seconds ahead of us at the pass. My technical skills are getting better and it was amazing to see what my bike can do on the down hill sections. I feel more and more confident on the bike and as a result I keep going just a little bit faster. Mike flatted his tubeless so we stopped for a few minutes to fix that. The back side trail was really cool. Fast and twisty stuff with enough technical spots to make it a challenge. I was surprised to see how dry it was despite all the rain. Tonight we are signed up for a downhill clinic. I'd like to learn a few tricks for getting around tight switchbacks and getting down the loose rocky steep parts. Hopefully we'll learn how to be more efficient through technical sections too. What seems to slow me down is always my own cautiousness. Oh, and I almost forgot, a black bear walked in front of our car on the way there.

Yay for mountain biking!

Mountain Biking 1:30:00 [3]

Good steady ride in the city. Looking forward to Powderface tomorrow night.

Note

I have to correct my story about Lonn winning the solo category for ss. He plaed second, which by all means does not make it any less impressive! He was fighting it out for first the whole event! Super touch race and super impressive that he hung in there despite the weather.
