Note
I’ve noticed that a lot of AP users are setting out their goals for 2012. I find it hard to set my goals and motivate myself to train without firm race plans in place. I’m not sure that I know what I will do for 2012 yet, but I know I want to keep fit. The past month I’ve really been enjoying some free evenings and not having to get up insanely early to get a workout done before work, but I think that will have to change soon if I want to keep some of what I built up last year. So here I go:
#1: Keeping my diet healthy with lots and lots of antioxidants and get more sleep than this previous year, even if my training have to suffer a little bit as a result. Maybe only one or two early mornings per week and hopefully several nights of getting to bed early. I want to make those killer cells work as much as possible!
#2: Whether I like it or not, the running I did last year really brought by fitness up a notch and made me overall stronger and maybe even a little faster. I want to keep up with 3 solid runs per week with at least one being a longer one. I just need to figure out how to keep running fun.
#3: The strength and yoga/stretching work I did last year really helped me stay strong and fairly pain free in the RTNX and XPD races (and I suspect that the many dollars spent on physiotherapy also had something to do with it). I will want to keep this work up.
# 4: I really need to get stronger at paddling, but unless I have some adventure races planned out, I will not prioritize this. At least 1 good paddle a week to start with and build from there if some race plans solidify.
#5: I never have any issues keeping my biking fitness with the killer spin classes we have at hand here so I will just keep doing what I have always done. This year I will get back to commuting on the bike to work again as I really enjoy that.
I bet I will not reach the same hours of training as I did last year (973hrs), but hopefully I can still retain some of my fitness built up this year.
