Road Biking 1:15:00 [2] 32.0 km (2:21 / km)

Huge headwind in combination with the elevation gain on the way out made it tricky to stay in E2. I had to slow down considerably and resist the urge of just biking up the hills at normal speeds. On the way back it was difficult to reach my E3 zone and even sometimes the E2 zone because of the tail wind. I was running out of gears at 55km/hr. Fun ride!

5 min easy
20 min E2
3 x} 8 min mid E3 (no lactic acid)
7 min E2 in between
5 min easy

Running (Road) 20:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3

Bricked run with the bike ride. I felt like I could have kept going and I guess that was the point with the workout. Forgot my Garmin so I have no stats.

Kayak Ergo 30:00 [1]

Just a small little spin to keep the body used to paddling. Started sorting out some gear for the race afterwards. I'm hoping to keep it to one bag plus the bike box. We'll see.

Running (Road) 45:00 [2]
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3

45 min easy run with pack. The focus was on keeping the strides quick & short and feet light while keeping the effort low. Another hot afternnon, but at least there are no deer flies in Calgary!

Note

So not only do my new haircut suck, but now I'm prescribed pretty much a rest day even though I'm just getting back into the swing of things and feeling good again. Ahh, the patience. I have to learn the patience! I'm sure there is good strategy here. I just haven't found out yet.

Running (Road) 30:00 [1] 4.75 km (6:19 / km)

An E1 run as lightly as I could go without breaking into a speed walk. Hard to go this easy when I want to do more.

Running (Trail) 1:02:00 [3] 9.0 km (6:53 / km)
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3

Ran the secret trail off of Edworthy Park, but didn't run my garmin or altimeter correctly so I'm lacking proper stats. Had a more consistent run than yesterday and felt good throughout. Ran the hills slowly but steadily. I was starting to feel the warm weather towards the end though (32C). Now I just have to work on my speed a bit more. In the spring and early summer I was so focued on the ultra run that I didn't put much work into my speed and sort of let myself get too comfortable at a slower pace. Mike rolled his ankle on the way back which was a bummer. Hope it's not bad. After the run we headed over to Bowness to watch the cat 1 and 2 ride a crit. My physio has moved into cat 2 and this was only his second race in that category. He was riding in the chase group for most of the race but eventually the lead group (I'm guessing mostly cat 1 boys) lapped the chase group and took them out.
