Cross Country Skiing (Classic) 2:40:00 [3] 29.0 km (5:31 / km) +700m 4:55 / km

Headed back to Cascade Valley today as our friends Steve and Trish wanted to check it out. Not a bad choice since it was still in great shape. Today I waxed with too cold of a wax and had a bit of slip on the way in. The temps went from -14C to -6C while we were skiing and thus the slipping. Once I rewaxed things were great. I had a great ski today and felt good and steady. Ripped it on the way back and even did okay on the climbs. Now I need a day to recover before going back to work.

Cross Country Skiing (Classic) 3:00:00 [3] 24.5 km (7:21 / km) +1100m 6:00 / km

Spent the afternoon at PLPP. Lots of climbing to begin with on Boulton Creek to Elk Pass, up to Bluberry Hill and back, continued on Elk Pass where we turned down the Hydroline to get back to the car. We had a late start to the day so ran out of time to complete the originally planned loop. We didn't nail the wax well either which made the day slower. Didn't have good glide and going up Blueberry hill there was fresh snow on the tracks which made it slow too. Many times on the flatter sections or even downhill it was hard to keep the momentum. The way back was super fast still. I hadn't realized how much we had been climbing until we headed back down. It was also the first day this year skiing with a pack. It was a cold day around -15 so we brought a few extra things. The pack put me a bit off balance and it took me a while to figure out the climbing.

Then we got home and Mike started screaming when he opened his iPad. Apparently he's going to Western States 100 miler next summer! His name was pulled!

Note

Funny, Wild Rose didn't race at all this past season, but we are still ranked 23 on the new World Ranking system. 127 teams were part of the ranking. Technu was rated in 6th (congrats guys!), Thule 1st and Seagate 2nd.

Running (Road) 1:25:00 [3]

A run in our neighbourhood. I thought I would only go for about 45 minutes or so but I felt super good running for some weird reason and the new technique that I have been learning felt like it started to click. It's still far from perfect but it felt more relaxed and natural than it has up until now. I just kept running and didn't feel tired at all. Finally I had to head back home to use the washroom which was too bad....for the first time in a very long time I had a bit of a runners high. Hope this keeps up.

Weights/Strength (Running Technique) 1:20:00 [3]

A couple of triathletes joined me in my session with the coach this morning. Fun with some girl company. Some of the harder drills are really starting to click for me now. The fast feet with alternating leg kicks are feeling good. I can totally feel how to bring my foot back, up, around, down and then kick off. Now I need to translate that into my actual running. Will practice that tonight.

Weights/Strength (Running Core) 15:00 [3]

It's getting increasingly harder to motivate myself to do these sets. Must come up with a way to make it more fun. Maybe I should do it while watching Skavlan. A Swedish/Norwegian talk show that I enjoy. The show hosts all kinds of popular and sometimes strange people.

Weights/Strength (Running Technique) 1:15:00 [3]

I was bagged this morning and getting out of bed was harder than usual. Once in my session it was worth it though. I'm getting my fast feet with single stride much better now. A small adjustment to my shoulders helped me land my feet properly. My upper body was pretty fried from the weekend which made some work very hard.

Running 1:20:00 [3]
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3

Sarted with 10 minutes of technique drills, added more drills in the middle and ended with some as well. The run itself was a bit boring as I was on the indoor track, but it helped me focus on my positioning.

Weights/Strength (Running Core) 15:00 [3]

The usual little program. My pushup sucked as I was bagged from the weekend and this morning.
