Running (Trail) 2:40:00 [3] 19.0 km (8:25 / km) +960m 6:43 / km
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3

The nice trail conditions were short lived. Perhaps we should have gone back to the Banff area as I heard they received less snow than Canmore. The plan had been to scramble Lady Mac D after a 1hr run but we discovered that there was plenty of snow on the benchlands and I decided to just run instead. Many up and downs on this trail. Took it a bit too slow and easy on the way out but picked up and had a steady good run on the way back. Spent a bit of time looking for the trail in a few spots as the snow made it hard to find. I had a bit of a break through, finally, on the drinking front. I have had trouble getting enough fluid into me on my runs as it seems like every time I drink my stomach starts hurting and even stitching. I was starting to suspect that maybe sucking in the water from a hose contributes so today I tried a little Salomon drinking bag (kind of like a bottle only made like a bag so it fits perfectly in my pack's front pocket). It was awesome. I drank 500ml of water and carbopro with no issues. It might be the way to go for me. Will continue to test it out. I'm also noticing that my uphill running is coming along nicely. I make it up hills with less perceived effort now. Seems to be all about Llews uphill bounding strides ( don't fight the hill, as he puts it).

Running (Trail) 4:10:00 [3] 33.5 km (7:28 / km) +500m 6:57 / km
shoes: Spikecross

Fantastic day on the Minnewanka trail. The trail was in great shape with only a few small patches of now. It felt strange to run on dirt but also amazingly good. Ran past the rangers cabin by 10 or 15 minutes and then back. My pack was pretty heavy with a few extra items added on top of my mandatory CCC race gear. The body held up okay. Felt a bit in my left leg but not bad. Managed to hold my technique for the whole run and it is likely the main reason for finishing these runs without any back discomfort at all. My main focus this run was to keep the speed down while still maintaining the technique and I think I managed fairly well. Felt tired in the end.

Running (Road and Trail) 2:10:00 [3] 20.4 km (6:22 / km)
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3

Tough to inspire myself to go out running when there was a thick slush of snow from the afternoon snow storm that blew through town. In the end it wasn't as bad as I expected. Mostly wet.

Weights/Strength (Running Technique) 1:15:00 [3]
shoes: Five Fingers

Awesome session this morning with lots of hard stuff and no rest. Did Everest x 2 forwards (once with vest and once without) and then repeated it backwards x 2 (also with vest once and then without). Seems like my bounding technique is coming along as I got compliments for doing it correctly right off the bat. That was a good confirmation because I have been feeling good outside running, but haven't been fully sure if I actually do it right. Only fell apart once I could barely stay on the treadmill any more. Had to grab a hold of the front bar a couple of times just to keep running. A real sweat-fest. I love it!

Running (Road) 45:00 [2]
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3

An easy run on the road just to practice technique. I felt pretty tired.

Weights/Strength (Running Core) 15:00 [3]

The usual. My arms felt a bit weak from the morning session. I was doing some push-ups on the bosu ball where I had one hand on the ball and then after each pushup I had to jump the arms over to the other side to switch hand. That one gets me every time. It's not pretty (read: I am awful at this), but I get them done and the cost is weak arms for the rest of the day.

Spinning 2:10:00 [4]

Hard class with lots of E4 and MAP. Did well until the last three 5 minute sets where in the third set I was struggling a lot with E4. Even the last minute of MAP was dipping below the zone. My new watts feel really, really hard.

Weights/Strength (Running Technique) 1:15:00 [3]
shoes: Five Fingers

A good session this morning. I could feel the weekend running in my legs for sure (I was kind of shaking when working the quads), but still felt pretty good.
5 PM

Spinning (Rollers) 1:10:00 [3]

An easy spin to loosen the legs up while watching some TV show episodes. I really wish we could ride outside now that it's lighter out in the evenings, but -8C isn't very appealing.
6 PM

Weights/Strength (Running Core) 15:00 [3]

Usual program.
