Mountain Biking 2:30:00 [3] 31.0 km (4:50 / km)

Warmed up with CO for about 5 km or so, then headed out on my own while he was working in his odometer.

Aaaa, that friggin' Laundry Chute corner! It's driving me crazy! I'm so close, but yet I keep putting my foot down in the last second. I've ridden harder corners that this one so I don't get what it is that makes this one tricky for me. Oh, well. I did loop up to the top then down the Laundry Chutes to EKG and FYI plus a bit of a trail that I don't know the name of.

After my ride I met up with Myka and Elias for a spin on Get In, Get Out, Blue Beluga and EKG. We finished with a few obstacles at the fun park.

Rode home via the Canmore Trail and through downtown. The climb back to our place is a bit of a workout :)

Running (Trail) 1:40:00 [3] 9.0 km (11:07 / km)

The distance is an estimate. I bought an orienteering map at CNC and did the longer course. Because I could totally picture where the controls would be when I saw the map, I chose to bushwack a bunch and sometimes try to navigate using only trail feautures vs. compass. Using trails bit me in the butt a couple of times since there are so many more trails in reality than on the map. I overshot one control and had to come back a bit. After I finished the course I added on some more trail running and eventually met up with CO when he finished his paddle.

My new compass is not good. Very slow to settle and I don't like where the metric scale is located. I need to find a suunto or silva that I like. The stores in Calgary didn't have what I was after. I lost my favorite compas last winter while ski touring.

Note

Awesome physiotherapy session today! The back feels better and IT bands on the way! I learned to use those suction cups on the IT bands and yikes are they weird and painful :). Good stuff!

Mountain Biking 1:00:00 [1]

Last RMCC session. Today we shuttled up to the top of Reclaimer and rode down. The two most difficult cruxes were the two first switchbacks. I found the first relatively easy and not intimidating. The second one freaked me out. It was a switchback built up with rocks and logs, but as I looked at it I could see two lines that I thought could work. The instructor talked us through it and then we got to try. On my first attempt I stopped right above the drop, but the second time I went for it and cleaned it. It was really not at all as hard as it looked and I felt in total control through the whole thing. Note to myslef: try more of these intimidating looking sections as they may not be that hard. The rest of the trail was not a problem. Fun and fast mostly.

Running 1:00:00 [3]

Like Myka put it: the perfect run! The air was nice and crisp, the forest moist and the company great. I felt better running than I have in a long time and I haven't even been running. I have a suspicion that the high intensity work on my mountain bike has helped me a lot.
