Sprint Relay leg 2.

Didn't realise for a while that the Learnjoy punching system has a beep when it registers and takes a while (and you need to put the card over the SI hole in the unit) so missed some of the punches. Otherwise not too bad but not feeling that racey.

In more exciting news we went to one of the mental knock-off markets this morning. The shop owners are quite forceful in offering you discounts and the haggling is fantastic. I bought 2 pairs of Nikie Feres for 300 yuan (£38).

The conversation went something like this:
"How much is one pair of these shoes?"
"1200 yuan"
"OK, well I heard that a Norwegian guy I know got a pair for 100"
"No, no you're joking. This is the price."
"I don't want to spend more than 100-150 yuan"
"Please, be serious. I want to make you happy, you're my first customer. Make a serious offer".
"If it's more than 150 I have to leave, that's all I want to spend"
"OK, you leave. I want to make you happy. You leave."
"OK, thanks, see you later then"
"No, no, OK - 170 yuan"
"That's much better, but 150 is my max"
"No, no go away. You are joking."
"OK, I'll go then"
"OK, you're my first customer. I want to make you happy. 150"
"OK great".

Running along the Great Wall with some of the guys. Must be one of the most fun runs I've ever done.

It was super super busy for the first half then we got to the bit where it hadn't been rebuilt so it was crumbling a bit and there were trees growing on top. Parts of it were seriously steep and the views were amazing. Would love to come and do some sort of trip running along more of it.

We got deceptively high up too - nearly 1000m but still just looked like regular (steep) forest.

Got to our hotel in Beijing about midday, had a nap (had about 45mins sleep on the plane) then went out to explore a nearby park with the rest of the brits and danes. Really murky weather - low cloud/mist and a lot of smog. Light drizzle too, it was dead weird. The park was pretty cool though. Crossing roads here is absolutely mental, everyone basically goes when they want to and the bikes/mopeds don't have lights and just ignore everyone else.

(rest day)

Flying to Beijing.
10 AM

Running (Road) 1:04:54 [3] 16.36 km (3:58 / km) +6m 3:58 / km
shoes: Asics DS Skyspeed 3

Amsterdam Airport 10. Had some time to kill so left my bag with the others and went out to explore. Found a really cool little town with an insane number of canals and some windmills. The houses all had little canals instead of hedges/walls between them. It was really pretty, I like Holland. Should come back here for some sprint some time.

Had a hairy moment when I nearly dropped my passport in a canal (it was quite windy) and it started raining at the end which smudged the ink off a lot of my boarding card but managed to get back through security ok.

Some quad improvement this morning and can now lift my heel/knee up a bit higher. Definitely not enough to do drills though.

Flat road loop past Duddingston with Murray and Coombs. DOMS even worse today but running with an adapted scuttling running style with zero knee lift made things manageable. Good chat made this pretty close to fun.
