Sunday Jan 26 #

run 50:00 [3] 6.0 km (8:20 / km)
shoes: speedcross19 (blue/red)

Post-loppet recovery run. Home to Little Mtn and back. A bit of a stretch to call this a "run", but at least I got out there. Slow on the roads, and even slower on the trails in Little Mtn. Lots of snow, but footing wasn't too bad. Legs a bit sore, arms a bit sore, but I'm still moving :-).

classic ski 1:43:11 [3] 32.0 km (3:13 / km)
ahr:147 max:168

Reino Keski-Salmi Loppet. 5th overall, 2nd in M40-49. Great conditions after a couple days of difficult wet weather. Well transformed snow, right around zero - perfect klister skiing. Waxed my stiffer Fischer's with K22, with a few dabs of Rossa in the middle. Skis were very good, excellent glide but I had to work to get good grip. Tracks were really fast and the times show it. Lined up next to Glenn Bond (my usual arch-rival), with a game plan to "stick like glue". First time going head to head since my MI in 2018, so had no idea whether that would be in the cards. First lap, I was working hard to keep up to a group including Glenn, Seth Van Varseveld and Francis Stanley. Francis was pulling hard on the 2nd lap and our group was getting strung out. I upped the pace on LH Rd to catch back up and opened a small gap on Glenn and Seth. Fast skiing through BMW/Willow Switch. I seemed to have better kick than Francis on East Dales and was able to get ahead, a lead I was surprised/happy to hold to the end. Even splits (51:12, 51:59). Fastest time for me on the new course (previous best was 1:46:36 in 2014). 5th behind Thomas (1:33:28!), Alex M, Greg K, Tim B. Overall, a super fun ski. I was so happy to be out there battling it out with my good friend Glenn and ex-athlete Seth. Happy days.

classic ski 50:00 [3] 10.0 km (5:00 / km)

Wax testing (twice up to JR Lane), plus a cool-down around South Loop. Was so nice I did an extra long cool-down ski :-).

Thursday Jan 23 #

skate ski 1:30:00 [3] 19.4 km (4:38 / km)

Easy ski at LH with Trond. Nice loop including Ermine Frolic, up Sky Trail, around N Hub, LL Loop, Whoopees, etc. Nice to get up top - been so long without skiing up there!

Wednesday Jan 22 #

skate ski 1:40:00 [3] 21.0 km (4:46 / km)
ahr:101 max:149

Ski practice at LH. Z4 intervals, climbing LH Rd from S Hub to Cec's. 4-3-2-2-3-4 minutes with equal rest. Skied with the older boys, fairly hard effort.

Tuesday Jan 21 #

run 35:00 [3] 6.0 km (5:50 / km)
ahr:117 max:161 shoes: nb16

Treadmill at work in Vernon. Did 5 x 2 min at 9.0, 9.3, 9.5, 9.7, 10.0 mph with equal recovery at 6.5 mph (1% grade) Last couple were pretty tough. Nice to get in a bit of speed.

classic ski 1:40:00 [3] 18.0 km (5:33 / km)

Ski practice at LH. Right around zero, but I had decent skis with Rode Violet. Some kids with lacking grip, others clumping up, so it was a challenging day. Did a bit of a warm-up ski. Then, most of the loppet loop during practice. Kids weren't moving that fast but spirits were good.
