Ran Andrew Molera in Big Sur.: Lot to beach, double back to Bluff Trail, to narrow rutted Panorama Trail climbing up to south park perimeter, and a quick decent back on wide Ridge Trail. Cold stream crossing thigh deep near the start/finish keeps the trail for the brave.

Picked up the local paper in Carmel. Woman had helicopter evac a few days ago after turning an ankle on the wall I mentioned. To keep my pride intact, I think I would have crawled out instead.

Parked on the shoulder at Garrapata State Park, slipped on a small pack, and headed up Soberanes Canyon. Crossed a creek four times under the redwoods. Had I not done this last year, I might have turned back when a sign said the trail was closed just before a scramble up a loose wall. But after that the footing was good up the long steep ascent. Hiked 0.4 miles with an average gradient of 32%, then .3 miles at 14%. Incredible views of the hills and ocean from up top. Jogged along the ridge, then back down the north trail.
