Training Log Archive: Culbin

Wollaton Park - I had no O kit or shoes to wear so borrowed K trousers and wore my trainers.

Lochnell - Fantastic area and views. I messed up 16, got to the right crag but no control, carried on and hit the path came back and found the same crag! The control was tucked away around the corner.

Torinturk - Started off first in very heavy rain and hated every minute. It was an awful area that should be used for fell races not orienteering. I spent most of my time slogging through bracken and marshes. Trevor caught me at 2 as I messed up 1 then I messed up 17, big style, as the marsh was a river so I spent ages looking up and down it for a knoll that was 150m further East.

Tralee Bay sprint - Fantastic area, setting and weather. This was a superb race, I started 1 minute behind Paul Beresford and 30 secs behind an oldish woman. I caught the woman at 1 as I went straight through the lovely beech wood and Paul at 2 coming back up the hill. I managed to stay in front of Paul until 8 then I went West thinking I could get through to 9 (but there was a thin strip of olive green so had to head South) Paul went South and just beat me. Paul missed 11 so I got back in front and stayed there until 23 where we were together. I went too high to 24 and Paul punched 20 secs before me then I got stuck in the rhoddy's going to 25 so lost some more time and finished just behind him beating him overall.

Creag Mhic - Feeling much better after yesterday and a proper orienteering area. No mistakes and managed to beat Dave Lawson(never beaten before), Iain Shepherd and Trevor Hoey(who usually beat me). So quite happy with my run.

Dunollie - Day 1 - Glad I did CC as it was not the best area.
