Running race (Ragnar Relay - Second leg) 1:03:00 [5] 8.5 mi (7:25 / mi) +300m 6:41 / mi
shoes: Kayano 13's

Best run of the year -- bar none. Started at 1AM. The run included the largest hill of the 208 mile race. Over one thousand feet of elevation change, most of which came at mile four, a 400 vertical foot hill up which I felt like I was hardly moving. But it was twenty degrees cooler than the 7 miles I did 8 hours prior. I was feeling really strong and I pushed it balls out no mercy from start to finish.

Running race (Ragnar Relay leg 3) 31:00 [5] 4.5 mi (6:53 / mi) +100m 6:27 / mi
shoes: Kayano 13's

Finally a more flat run. Although the first hill was 190 vertical feet gained, and was enough to slow me down. After 1.5 miles it was all downhill. Once I got to the top I knew it'd be over soon I clenched my teeth and hammered through the sore muscles and pulled out another run I was very happy with. Notwithstanding the fact that the Ragnar relay is unquestionably a monster corporate profit machine, I had a great time.

Running race (First leg of Ragnar Relay) 59:00 [5] 7.2 mi (8:12 / mi) +150m 7:42 / mi
shoes: Kayano 13's

Hot first leg of Ragnar relay. 400 feet of elevation change. Did not feel good. Ate too close to run, and not able to manage heat. 86 degrees with extremely high dew points - run was along black highway - effective temps felt around 100.

orienteering 6:00:00 [3] 16.0 mi (22:30 / mi)
shoes: Kayano 13's

first log-booyah! Taking this break from the campfire here to log today's run. Looks like ian's map reading was good enough to redeem jerrit''s lack of fitness and general bad attitude. Cheers to pete for a great run. Holy sweet Jesus I have eaten a lot, I can't resist a potluck of this quality and fecundity.

Running 1:20:00 [3] 9.0 mi (8:53 / mi)
weight:185lbs shoes: Kayano 13's

Trail run with Waima, Pete and Biz. Pete gave us a tour of his local favorite Battle Creek. Moderate pace. Two near max efforts up some decent hills. Good training. Legs felt a bit tired and sluggish, probably because of longer workouts over the weekend. Time to watch the Olympics for 3 straight days to recover for the Rogaine.

Running 1:30:00 [2] 10.5 mi (8:34 / mi)

Have not been running for a few months other than racing due to back pain. I'd like to be able to keep up with Pete or at least close this weekend at the Rogaine, so I set out to do all three lakes on Sunday. I felt good after 5 miles at a conservative pace. The last two miles were painful though, I was happy to finish and drive my car fast to the nearest calories. Borrowed friend's fanny pack camel back thing, it was sweet - kept 28 ounces of water very cold for over an hour and half. Should have put some calories in the little pouches.

Mountain Biking 2:30:00 [3] 35.0 mi (14.0 mph)
weight:185lbs

Rode with Andrew (still maintains that he is not doping and I'm still incredulous) from the crack den down to the river to do a long mountain bike session on the river bottom trail. Found a new downhill section that is being cut by heavy machinery, sketchy but really fun.

Author's note: Thought I'd give this a shot now that I'm spending a bit more time on the couch watching Olympics. But I want indemnity, I don't want any grief from my fellow geeks if I don't keep this up.
