Running 1:25:00 [3] 10.0 mi (8:30 / mi)

10 miler with mobiz and Guerfondler and John and Eric and Corey. Fun run and pretty good clip up and back though the theo wirth parkway. Legs are sore and need a few days off now. Feels good to have a lot of good training in this week though.

Running 12:42 [5] 2.0 mi (6:21 / mi)

Second effort in my pursuit of a Kelly marathon 10k split. Today's goal: two miles at pace.

I did it at the gym, and forgot my running shoes and so I had it in my gore-tex Columbia mid-high boots. Good news is that I got it done. Bad news is that I have no chance of doing that for 10k anytime soon. Super difficult. Feels good to have it under my belt though.

Onward.

Running 15:00 [2] 1.0 mi (15:00 / mi)

Warm up, cool down for the fast effort. Some abs and light lifting, which didn't last long.

Running 45:59 [4] 6.2 mi (7:25 / mi)

I've been considering taking my running training up a notch over the last few weeks. I think it's mostly been motivated by Kelly's inspirational efforts, but also because the lebanon single track is not much fun to ride when cold/covered with ice/snow. I'm a goal oriented person, it gives me direction and makes for easier decision making when the work day is winding down and I ask myself what I'm going to do for a workout.

One goal I really like, but I've been hesitant to take on, is to run Kelly's 10k split from her Olymipic trial qualifying effort in the marathon. You'd think that a farily fit dude could take on his girlfriend's marathon's 10k split without much trouble. Problem for me is that she crossed the 10k split at 38:40. That's 6:15 per mile for those of you keeping score. Yikes! My PR is two minutes slower than that, and that was 8 years ago when I was a decent triathlete, and running 3-4 times a week before my back was bad. So, I don't like the fact that it may not be possible.

But hey, it's a good way to put into perspective Kelly's accomplishments, right? That's what I figure. So, here begins my first training regarding this goal.

Tonight's goal was to (1) run 10k and (2) to do one mile at goal pace. So, I ran the third mile at pace. Good thing was that I was able to do it without cramping or hurting too bad. But it was really tough, not too far from blowing up. Felt like I could do about 2, maybe 2.5 miles at that pace before I blew up. I did the other miles between 7:30 and 8 minutes per mile. In the end I was a full mile behind her, so I was about one sixth slower. Emasculating? Perhaps. For me, I'll take that as a decent starting point...

Feels good to be done. I'll do at least one run with this goal in mind per week for a while, up to her run in Houston and perhaps beyond.

Initial indication confirms that what she did was impossible for most humans. Really stupid silly fast.

Curling 2:00:00 [1]

Wore my heart rate monitor tonight, and it showed 960 calories burned. I swept particularly hard, but regardless, it's good to know I'm working.
