Broomball! 50:00 [4]

Friday night is men's league. We got a W, I think the score was 4-0. Good to see the old crew. Lots of different muscles got worked on the ice. I am going to be sooo sore.

Broomball! 50:00 [4]

First broomball game of the season. I signed up for co-ed on thursdays and men's league on Fridays this year so it will be busy, but it's a short season. I hope it will help with speed since it's lots of sprinting, but that may be wishful thinking. Tough opponent our first game, we never really had a chance, and lost badly.

Running 19:32 [5] 3.1 mi (6:18 / mi)

Tonight was blocked off for another speed workout. I didn't find a new year's 5k to register for so I figured tonight would be a 5k time trail. I warmed up for a half mile and then reset the shredmill and hammered out a 5k at goal pace (6:18/mile). It was tough, but not even as bad as my first few training sessions. I'm getting faster.

Running 10:00 [3] 1.1 mi (9:06 / mi)

Warm up and cool down for 5k, feels euphoric to finish a good fast run.

Running 1:18:00 [3] 8.0 mi (9:45 / mi)

Met up with Molly for an OTNT fill-in workout. We got a nice steady 8 mile in down at the fuge. Which is the national wildlife refuge that virtually shares it's parking lot with her office.

Curling 2:00:00 [1]

After losing 4/5 after getting our slick new jackets, we rolled into the club to start the second half of the season against the only undefeated team in the club. We took it to them hard from the start, not taking the one-point handicap that was assigned us for our draw. After the third end, we were up 4-1. We curled well all night, ending their dream season and righting our sinking ship. A great win for the home team.

Cycling 2:35:00 [5] 30.0 mi (11.6 mph)

No name 68.

Started from GJ's house. He's fit, dang was he hammering tonight. I attribute some of it to his fully rigid bike with narrower and studded tires at 60 psi (I was fully suspended with 2.2's at 30 psi, to help with the icy conditions) but still he had me racing this whole thing, including the trip from his house to the start.

We mapped out a good loop and rode fast for the entire course. Then we did a typical gearjunkie Puzak move and realized we had missed a checkpoint that was across town. Of course, we realize later that not only had we ridden right by the CP, we were in the lead by five minutes when we had to ride back. At that point I had already eaten one GU, and was about to bonk again, as I could not keep up. Another GU down and I was back on his wheel.

In the end, instead of being at or near the top we finished mid-pack. Which was fine for me, I had a blast battling to keep up with GJ and seeing the sights and sounds of the city. Alleycat racing is always a good time, even when cold and windy. We had some gusts that nearly stopped us in our tracks.
