Wonderful paddle from Meelup to Bunkers. Winds were down and the side swell was a lot less then the Thursday paddle. Less bodies to dodge at the beach too.

Still didn't feel good on the boat but managed to not swim this time. Also had a big breakfast so didn't run out of energy either. But regardless of how I felt, the scenery was great, the ocean was calm, not too many pleasure craft around.

On the way back it flattened out even more and made that part of the paddle extra special and relaxing. What a great way to finish of a long weekend!
Ahhhhhhh :-)

Straight to the downhill track with Hilarity where we did about 6? laps. I convinced myself I would do the double jump today. Well, it was sort of a double. It was one big jump with a mini jump on the way up and if you didn't have enough speed, you would jump into the side of the big jump, which I did. Suspension compressed fully, I hit the bars but didn't go over, until I lost my balance, went too far left and slide the front wheel. Off I went onto my right side pretty hard and then slide down the face of the jump. Ouch.

Picked myself up and tried again. Managed to get a 59s time but without trying that dam jump. Hilarity asked me if I wanted to go again, I said no as I foresaw an impending disaster. Off we went to the singe track trails.

We met up with a group of five who were overly kind and showed us a great trail. I followed their directions as best I could but got lost. Mind you, the bush had just been burnt the previous day which made it hard to spot the areas they spoke of. I managed to take Hilarity around in 2 circles before she realised we were slightly lost.

During this, I also managed to have another tumble. I successfully went over a log over of a medium size and then I found myself flying over the handle bars. I was really surprised because it wasn't huge and I had done it correctly. I found myself sitting on the ground, slightly winded and without shoe. That was the pivotal clue. My shoe was still clipped in. It had caught on a thin stump just past the log over, a stump I didn't see at all and that caught my foot and threw me over! Weirdest feeling though, crashing and having no idea why, just spooky!

Luckily I brought my compass along. Yep. I used it to head northeast, thinking that we would either hit carters road or the town or river, either of which would get us home. We got to carters road and then cruised home, having exhausted all our energy reserves. We even resorted to trying to eat a muesli bar (which we both hate) for energy.

No signs on the way home this time, just the realisation that the cricket was on. A beer and curry later, I was in heaven.

Other stuff (Supa Golf) 1:00:00 [0] 1.0 km (1:00:00 / km)

Supa Golf. I guess the word super had been trademarked or something.
Is it a sport? Is it a game? Is it logable?
I say yes.

My driving with the big boy was small on success. However the jigger and striker were dancing a tango of great shots, rising high into the air, hitting trees dead centre and coming back to within a few metres of their starting location.

Hilarity's putting was superb and she won the day by one stroke. The trees took their revenge...

The Margaret River trails awaited my return although my memory for their exact location was less than supernatural. It was Hilarity and me this time, I was ditching the MTB boys (& girl) for a better looking option.

After crossing the river twice but only remembering it once, we were south of the river, looking for landmarks that were only to be found on the north side.

We stumbled across a tourist map and made our way back to the weir where we re-crossed the river again. This time I stuck to the track closest to Carters road. It was a very narrow but great track that lead to the car park on the north side of carter's road.

We took the poorly mapped Big Brook trail in the hopes of finding the pine plantation downhill track that both of us have been down in the past. We found it eventually and did a few laps. We also looked in awe at the huge jump there, with a gap of about 2-3 metres, 2 metres above ground level. HUGE.

On the way home I experienced something supernatural. I saw a sign. It was as clear as Margaret River is beautiful. It said "pie, chips and gravy, $6". Nuff said.

Arrived at the Meelup car park to throngs of people and cars everywhere. It was like Anaconda weekend all over again. Found Rawl and Wally80 and negotiated our way through the frying and floating bodies littering the beach and shore break.

After a shaky start on my part, we got going to Bunkers. I didn't feel good on the boat and mentioned that I must have unlearned how to paddle. Mind you, the swell was hitting us on the rear quarter and it was a type of condition that I didn't have much experience with.

Once at Bunker bay, we relaxed for while and then I remembered a big cave on just past the point on the northwest side of the bay. Off we went. I saw the cave and was happy. Wally80 saw a seal and was happy too. Hilarity and me were happier when said seal turned out to be a diver's flippers.

The paddle back was a struggle for me. Must have not had enough food or that distance is still outside my range without a gel or two mid paddle.

Note

Physio this morning told me my arm thing was just a sprain and that I'm good to go. Thinking back (and looking at the log) i haven't done any climbing for ages so to kick off with a 180m total ascent was probably a bit much. Will try to ease into it a bit slower i think.
