MTB 2:56:07 intensity: (18:20 @1) + (1:10:07 @2) + (43:32 @3) + (40:08 @4) + (4:00 @5) 34.0 km (11.6 kph)
ahr:125 max:178 shoes: Rocky Mountain Instinct

Time and dist approx as my GPS decided to miss out a section of track for some reason.

Had a bit more energy today but I still felt slow. It was like I was in fat burning mode without ever having done the intense workout beforehand. Still, managed a similar time to last week with only 4 or so k's less. Very odd.

Recovery week this week and I'm looking forward to it. Looking forward to a few slow cruises on the bike while the weather holds up. And a cruisey paddle will be nice too!

Roadie 1 [0]
shoes: Giant TCR C1

Lay in bed with the 2 alarms blarring feeling lethargic and tired, more so than usual. Forced myself out of bed and hopped on the bike. Something didn't feel quite right. As we hit Mounts Bay Road I realised it was my legs that didn't feel right.

When I pushed there was nothing there. Not even acid! HR went up but didn't get the usual burn nor did I get the usual power. Really odd feeling, especially when I don't really have a clue why I had it. The result was that I was at the back, the very back, dropping off everywhere, even on the flats.

Which was probably a good thing as at the finish sprint I got to see my first roadie crash. It made my stomach turn. 2 guys all alone on the road in front of me. One of them hits something on the road and falls in front of chap #2 who then goes down trying to avoid chap #1, and in the process lands heavily, cracks his helmet and almost puts his head under a passing taxi.

Plastic bits and pieces everywhere, cars stopped and riders laying on the ground moving luckily but certainly in some pain. Magically the only injuries that we could see were grazes and some bike damage. So generally a shitty ride all round.

Running 34:57 intensity: (10:35 @0) + (5:42 @1) + (2:37 @2) + (1:16 @3) + (7:58 @4) + (6:49 @5) 4.6 km (7:36 / km)
ahr:138 max:179 shoes: Salomon XA Pro 3D

Guess what? A pain free run for a total of 16 minutes and not a single heel strike in sight. And the fitness, although no great, wasn't that bad either. Managed to only stop once during the run.

3 x 10 glute exercises on right side. You stand up, have an elastic band round your knees and you move one of your knees out and back. What's this one called SteveJ?

Paddling intervals 1:11:18 intensity: (7:00 @0) + (9:55 @1) + (11:29 @2) + (4:38 @3) + (38:16 @4) 8.6 km (7.2 kph)
shoes: Custom Kayaks Mentor

1km intervals. Even laps were upriver but downwind. Thought these were going to be the quickest but once I started I felt like I was moving soooo slowly. Odds were of course opposite. I felt like I was flying through these. Oddly though, there was a spot just after the claisbrook inlet that felt really slow. The actually spot felt slow that is, the water provided more resistance and my cadence dropped while going through it and then picked up after. Weird.

Rest ranged from 50s to 2min.

Note
(rest day)

The way I'm feeling I think I might take a few recovery days. Still sore from the MTB and not feeling myself. Maybe that's a symptom: poor fine motor skills and loss of sensation....

Roadie 2:17:32 intensity: (15:00 @1) + (48:43 @2) + (21:53 @3) + (40:04 @4) + (11:52 @5) 54.5 km (23.8 kph) +151m

A 'recovery' (cough) ride today with MTBJen and Tooms. Down to Freo and back via Mt Henry Bridge - go figure? I though canning bridge took you to Freo but what do I know. Just like White Tag is the way to Lockwood.

If yesterday's effort wasn't going to kill me, today's sure was. Although this time from a different cause. My inner hooligan made a sudden re-appearance today (I thought I buried him in 2000) and I tried to get under a 4wd. Luckily for me the 4wd was too heavy for me to lift so I didn't end up under it.

For the rest of the ride I carried the Teddy Bear that MTBJen had earned in the first parts of the ride after shouting "I don't want to go up that hill!" in a real "I'm a helpless" girl like tone. Her aversion for hills passed however as my legs slowly disintegrated. Staying in the draft was getting too much and I had to anticipate small inclines to keep from being dropped.

On a hilly road to Mosman Park, MTBJen and her 300k legs took off. I managed to catch Tooms, or did he manage to notice me and ease off? After a quick chat, and Tooms giving me the "Sensible" Line I dropped off and picked a shorter way home.

Lucky I did. The last part of the ride was difficult. Barely managed 20kph and my back was starting to hurt, in addition to everything else. Home now and after a nap feel better. What a weekend. Phew.

Not sure whether my HRM has an issue or I am completely stuffed. My resting HR of between 55-60 was 90 today. And I managed to get 196 on the ride today, probably from a combination of adrenalin and effort trying to get king of the mountain. Maybe the iron supplements I started taking recently are giving me an extra bit of Oomph!

Other stuff 1 [0]

Have learned to consciously activate my right glute after some time today trying to figure it out. Why? Apparently it doesn't seem to be working when it should.
